Default Any Daihatsu Mechanics/ people that know about them ?

I bought a 1997 sportrak as a winter car thinking oh itl be great to go through mud and over the dunes and stuff, anyway after a week the novelty wore off and its shit.

I took it for its mot and it failed on emissions, big time. my mate the tester said its supposed to be .50% or summat and it was 13% means nothing to me but he said thats bad.

Its an EFI and ive no idea where to start with it, the only thing ive been told is it could be the lambda sensor, but theyre £155 + VAT from daihatsu so i just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas before i start buying bits.

Cheers

try cleaning the old lamda senser out and the air filter then give it a good hard drive to try and help push all the poop out from the exausht but it does sound like your cat is knackered if its rattling

get underneath it and hit the cat with your fist, if it has broken apart inside then it will rattle!

What did it fail on? CO level or HC?

Cat or lamda sensor most likely.

If you can weld theres universal cats on ebay new for about 30 quid delivered and you just weld your original pipes that come out of the cat to it. In other words you get the new cat with about an inch and a half of new pipe poking out each end.
Ive used one not long ago on a suzuki vitara that had higher emmisions than yours and it did the job.
Also lamda sensors on there cheap, but cant vouch for them !!

Cheers for that Andy

to be honest i just wanna get the fookin thing fixed and rid of. Guarenteed if i buy a lambda itl be the cat and vice versa, and the prices id been quoted for the bits wasnt gonna be cheap.

Think il check them out on ebay
