iKedo smp, is one most doormen should adopt, the art of learning all that helps, ive done door work for 10 years now, learnig how to keep my cool and use various technques to dissable the body is a great self-defence tool, however a good doorman will never need to defend himself or others... he should be able to diffuse a situation by simply useinhg his brain...
good luck,

i teach the course and to be honest unless your a brain dead monkey then you will pass.

Work is pretty easy to find up here as there are always new places opening, I started by finding out a local bar was loosing its doorstaff and had no replacement so me and a mate had a word with the manager and the next week I was working privately for them. After a few month there the offers of work, were and still are, always there every week. Another way to try is just to go and speak to the doorstaff of a place you frequent (not somewhere you have been thrown out of as this wouldnt be a good start). However dont just start babbling on to them when your out on the piss, make the effort to go one night when your sober and just ask about cover work or maybe ask if you can stand with them for a night and watch and have a bit banter, I did that before I decided to get my badge.

does any of the doormen off here do any kind of self defence/martial arts on a regular basis?
With regards to that, I used to go to Vale Tudo clases in my local gym for about a year and previous to that it was just your usual growing up brawls and scuffles. Im not a fighter, Ill talk my way out of it if I can but when it comes to it I can certainly hold my own. It is advisable that you know you can at least defend yourself when you need to before you even consider door work. Not just the fact you can knock someone out with one punch, theres far too many cameras waiting to catch you. The old skool days of dragging people into the back lane for a good hiding have gone now, restraint is the main thing these days, with the odd exception now and again if you know cameras cant see you.

As above mate work on door's with a low profile, somewhere quiet or on a door maybe not in your area. Ive done it and to be honest it just pissed me off. It was mainly the younger generation that would cause the trouble, cant handle there drink nor there mouth alot of my mates still do it but are pissed of with it due to being on the drs every weekend but wont leave as its an extra income that pays well

There will be somewhere local to you that does some form of martial art/fighting/defence classes. Just ask at your gym and someone will know where they are.

my dad used to be a old school bouncer where you beat the shite out of people and literly through them out, he knows lots of bouncers/doorman and they say that its good money but pretty bad as in that you can take a beating quitr badly and sometmes worse but when you do anything to anyone they try getting you done by the police

did my first night in one of the clubs in weston last saturday, was a good night, all the guys i worked with seemed sound, kicked off 4 or 5 times, i got stuck in and did what i could and i think the guys appreciated i was new to it so just followed their lead really. working again next weekend and basiclly been told ill be able to work as many nights as i want in the summer when it picks up so must have done something right!!

fucking good buzz though when it kicks off with a group of lads! never really had alot of major trouble at my old place, this was a big difference!

anyone know of first point security in somerset?
