Default Brake splash guards - MOT failure?

Just fitting cossie 4x4 rear discs and calipers to my XR4x4 but the bigger discs won't fit under the splash guard.

Is it an MOT failure to remove the guard?

Also, is it going to affect the discs much without the guard being present?

Cheers.

when i rebuilt my 3 door the splash gaurds/dust sheilds ,where no longer available .
If yo put larger discs on the rears they must be removed any how.
So the answer must be No ,as i have an MOT

Righthooker - cheers. I guess its okay to leave them off then.

Ollie - Unfortunately the offside one was sticking badly which is one of the reasons I decided to upgrade so that one will be dropped in the skip. I'm not sure about the nearside one but it is probably pretty knackered as well. I can have a look at the nearside one for you if you want.

They are dead cheap on ebay or alternatively motor factors sell them quite cheap on an exchange basis is you already have a knackered set.

the splash guards are to prevent stones / water ect from getting on the disc, they are not part of the MOT test so if you can not get them, don't worry !!!

No problem, I might just get some refurbed ones from http://www.brakeparts.co.uk/ just ordered some for the front, probably safer than messing about with second hand ones

I would have thought its better to get a known get set rather than risk some shonky old ones. Or alternatively do what i'm doing and change to cosworth rear hubs, discs and calipers. Doesn't seem that hard to do, although i did waste about 2 hours today pressing in the new wheels bearings.

My new XR4x4 rear splashshields fitted behind the Cosworth 4x4 rear discs with just a little bending. Cost was about £7-£8 each but that was a couple of years ago now.
