Default AP brakes, 6 pots or 4?

Why does every one swear by the 4 pots but doe : sn't take a blind bit of notice to the 6 pots? Surley they are stronger and more powerfull?
Is it due to the life of them or reliability, price or something else?

the majority of folks on here run 6 pots if they have AP's

Would have thought the more pots the better but its all down to your

budget at the end of the day they arnt cheap

AP 6 pots are phenomenal and we use them on 800+bhp cars all day long

AP 6 pots in mine and they are awesome,no problems with the brakes at all.

I've recently reverted back to 4pot Brembos after having 6pot AP's on for the past while.......stopping distance is noticeably worse.

Appologises, I obviously got the wrong idea . It was in a Cosworth magazine special that they didnt mention 6-pots and instead praised the 4-pots.

Hi

I have the AP 6pot calipers ( cp-5555 ) which take a min 355 disc these are brill too good infact i might go back to ap 4pot cp5200 x330mm on the front

reasons the 6 pots stop the car too quick and sometime cause it to skid lock up

i am not use to the 6 pots to be honest it's like i cant find an in between stoping and skiding without locking up the front i dont have too press the pedal just rest my foot on them and they stop (hard to explain)

anyway they do the other AP 6pots cp5570 which take min of 330mm to max 355mm discs

these ones are NO Better than the AP 4 pot calipers cp5200 with 330mm discs

I have the AP 4pots (Cp 5200) with 330mm x28mm discs on the rs2000 and these are the bizz i rate them highly

More pots arent always better. Seems most people seem to think this along with massive rotors.

Weight of the braking components is a big consideration. Dont go bigger than you need to.

Caliper design also takes into account things such as torsional flex, caliper deflection, piston area, leading edge characteristics..........

im going to see what they are like on track first i haven't been on track with the 3dr for ages and i want to see what they are like i have the 4pot 330mm on the rear so it might make a bit of differance dont know yet

No point in running mega big brakes i.e AP 6 pots 356X32mm if you dont have the tyres to support road use stick to 4 pots 330X28mm on track use 6 pots 356X32mm if ur running slicks else as already pointed out the tyres will give in and u'll just lock the wheels up pointless IMO

For road use, AP 4 pot 330's will be all you need.

As Porkie has said, for the road AP 4 Pots are fine.... they are also fine for track, dependant on how you drive that is.

I have AP 6 pots with 355mm rotors on mine and I have to say on track they are nothing short of outstanding. I did 60+ timed laps at Tuner GP @ Snetterton and never had any brake fade during the whole day.

Sounds like your braking system is over servo'd mate...... the feel on my AP's are perfect?!?

may be but i have the ap 4 pot 330mm x 32mm on the rear now well (been on for ages) i have the ap 6 pot on the front with 356mmx 36mm discs

I haven't had the chance to drive the car flat out to see what they are like

might even out the braking system i have the bias adjuster i dont use the abs but i still use the abs pump (servo)

Idealy i should go for proper pedal box but cant be botherd as it still a road car



dont forget shaun you have the 4wd system to slow your car down aswell i haven't

dont get me wrong once i need to get use to them really before i make comment

Front:[/b] AP Racing 378mm (15") CP3700-1010/11G8 grooved and ventilated discs (fully floating) with gold anodised aluminium bells. AP Racing CP6235 6-pot differential bores, liquid-cooled, WRC callipers, and stainless-steel braided hoses. Ferodo DS3000 (CP6235D46) pads.

Rear: AP Racing 315mm (12.4") CP3580-64/5G8 grooved and ventilated discs wth gold anodised aluminium bells. AP Racing "Ex-works" Grp A, Ford Motorsport CP3620 4-pot callipers with titanium pistons and stainless-steel braided hoses. Ferodo DS3000 (CP3215D50) pads.

System: Hydraulic, dual-circuit with vacuum servo assistance and Teves ABS. Reyland hydraulic handbrake actuation.

...i run ap 6pots with 330mm ap discs and tbh the abs is working overtime .....Dont feel as good as my 6pot and 355 ap setup on the escos though!

I'll second that. I have the same conversion as Marco on my RS 2000. They are simply amazing!

Its all very well having massive brakes, but it gets to the point where they are getting too good for road tyres - you really need to be using slicks to make use of their full stopping power.
