Key was (aparantly) halfway between lock and 1st click on ignition barrell. Obviously they thought it was in 1st click on ign barrell. Key ping'd to off/lock position as he steered, steering lock came on.. that's the result.
I was wondering about the towing thing messing the transmission too. I was told not to tow 4wd, can someone explain why it buggers it up?

So were they towing it without the keys in ignition and the steering lock came on.
Would the brakes on the scooby have atleast jerked the landrover into looking to see what was going on? if he hant been towing at that speed they might have got away with just fucking the 4x4 transmission

Another good use for a discovery, hauling cars sideways into poles
muppets, u get a trailer or get it recovered or if u have to tow it, then use the metal pole thing,
unlucky but, haha to them!

I once was getting towed by my father.
My rst being towed by his v6 mondy.
We came out of Dunblane and for some reason I decided it would be a good idea to turn off the imobiliser, to do this I had to take the key from the ignition and put it in the imobiliser bit. ( bear in mind I had had an hours sleep working on the car all night ) as I took the key out of the ignition to reach for the imobiliser slot it hit me that we were coming up to a bend at around 60 mph and my car was wanting to go straight on.
I tried to stay very calm and put the key back in the ignition and get the steering lock off, I managed it, THANK FVCK! - it still makes me feel sick in the stomach to the day, the feeling of the steering wheel hitting the steering lock as I entered a pretty serious bend. lol.
what an utter nob of a move that was

It must have been a bit of a shock, it's not like they'd just set off and then forgot to take it off.

the guy who owns the car owns some big hotels in St Lucia..
he had payed for Andy F to fly over to map his car.
they had been playing with it all week but due to various probs they were now in a hurry to get it finsished.
the reason it was getting towed was beacuse the engine started knocking when being run on full boost..they werent taking any chances driving it.

Towing a 4x4 with all for wheels on the ground is perfectly fine.
What do you think happens when you knock it into neutral and coast off the motorway or something??
I'll give you a clue - NOTHING
The towing rules are:
Don't tow an AUTOMATIC far or fast.
And about 4x4 - all FOUR wheels must be on the ground, or you will damage center diff.
Pisser about the car though

4x4 is perfectly fine with all 4 wheels on the floor. It's when you tow with a spec lift that 4x4's can't be done.

Anything else that may have been published will be general sweeping statements, probably thinking about the other unknowns e.g. what vehicle is towing? Will the brakes cope? Is the driver shit etc...
My point is there will be NO TRANSMISSION DAMAGE.
Have a think about what part(s) will actually break if the car is towed?
