TBH mate these would be worse for dragging than normal part worn road tyres with only say 15psi. The reason is that they are designed for track use to the sidewalls are very stiff and dont have any give. the track tyres would be god on the back of a FWD car though to try and stop power getting soaked up. Dunlop do a road legal drag tyre in 15's, my mate used these at TOTB 2 years ago and that was running 12.1's 1/4s

Drag radials have very very soft sidewalls and the compound is soft enough to pick off with your finger nail.

The other thing with the FWD cars and selectable boost controllers is wouldn't it be best to make wheel speed indicator that runs on the back wheel? The reason i say this is when the car starts to wheel spin the boost controller thinks you are in a higher gear so gives you even more boost making the problem even worse.

They didnt really help though on the day, i managed 4.19 0-60mph on my kumho's (the only proper run i did on them) and the best i could do was 4.10 0-60 on the drag tyres after trying about 6 launches.

The track just wasnt good for grip, the lane that is used to drive back on was gripier by far but thought i might get thrown off site if i busted a full launch there

But to get that tiny bit quicker just gets harder once eveyones already running reasonably big power, so the gains get less and less and become harder to achieve.

Cars now also want super reliability to go with the power too.

Totally agree with Lee saying that the surface was pony for starts, my good and bad starts were all almost identical.

Respect to all that ran

Tib do you have run your car on a proper dragstrip like santa pod and is it good for only straightline acceleration??
And tim i like to give people ideas for making their cars faster and better you just have to make your car faster than then the other people.

Tib's run his car at many Places,

places i've seen him run are Santa Pod, Elevinton (sp), Bruntingthorpe, and all more than once.

i believe his 11.4 in his sig, to be @ the pod on his cut slicks.

I did run at santa pod with the mickey T's once.... i got about 5 metres before the diff spat itself out so like said by danny only ever used cut slicks at pod.

having watched Christians vid i wondered what peoples views on wearinf helmets are?

would you wear a helmet on top speed runs?

should they be a requirement at these events?

Only saw one person with a helmet on at the cossie event..

what was it like at the RST day?

Beccy insists on it to be perfectly honest, but I am absolutely fine with it and always will wear a helmet. Why should it be any different to hammering round a track?

Sod what people think.

less chance of someting going wrong in a stright line i suppose?

but if something does go wrong it could be worse? nothing to hit but that didnt save Richard Hammond.

I was thinking abou this the other day actually...

wil i wear one on the next top speed day? Not sure?

Santa pod make you wear them if involved in competitions.

And if told to i dont mind at all, even tho i'm sweeting like a slut after a session on the track.

And the other thing i dont like about them, is my vision is limited, and same for movement.

Santa Pods rules state if you have a terminal speed of 100+ then you wear a helmet

Not sure if im right on this one but sure someone will correct me if im not, but when Martin crashed the old Escort dont think he actually hit anything as such just rolled and rolled, and not sure what speed he was doing BUT Euan dont think it was up at your 184 mph, but either way if you was to cartwheel your car at that speed what do you think it would like knowing how well built and how strong Martins was , basically a helmet cant be a bad idea for even straightlining if the speed is there, if anything as Dan said the helmet is a hindurance around a track when u need better visibilty.

My were confident arent we lol

for 1 theres always a tyre problem

for 2 any number of mechanical issues, steering suspension bonnet flying up anything, dont care how metaculous ur with the prep of your car, you never know if something is on its last legs, a bit of metal with fatigue, anything

For 3 you are pushing your car to its limits who says it wont just sieze, ok drop your clutch, do you know how far u skid in the time it would take u to react , or say the diff or gearbox explodes locking up nothing to stop the driven wheels locking then

But ok "it wont happen to you"

i know where you are all coming from...

We (me and all the guys involved in preparing the car at AVA) disscussed the runs ALOT in the weeks leading up to the event.

I decided its best not to think about what can go wrong as it will only make you think twice.

The car was checked and double checked then i had it back for two days then it was at AVA the nite before we left to check it all again.
