Default Thinking of buying a Ford Explorer ...

It'll be the Petrol 4.0L SOHC V6, Has anyone has any experience with this vehicle.

Any horror stories? Any stories of fantastic ownership where nothing ever went wrong? Does anyone own one? What are they like?

Any feedback will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Timing chains are common prob with them and its an engine out job to do them !!!

Also bad for Hego sensors giving probs and putting the engine management light on, think Ford tried fixing the problem by modifying the exhaust manifold gaskets and replacing the sensors, worth watching out for though.

panels are not available and also the mirror glasses are not available on there own too for some reason you have to by a new mirror

we had a bodyshop do a rear end on a explorere for the bumper to go back order AND THEN go no longer serviced,,, that bodyshop was WELL pleased with us after they fitted a new rear quarter/back pannel and boot floor section to get told the rear bumper aint gonna come now

in a nut shell avoid them if poss unless you got a good company who can get parts from the states cheep

The load space is massive. I borrowed it to pick up one of those american style fridges and i was arguing with the guy in Comet. He said there is NO WAY it's fitting in anything other than a van, was hesitant to bring the fridge out to the car park saying he wont be happy about bringing it back in when it wont fit. Explorer took it no bother, with room to spare!
