Good point Stav.

However it does look like the real thing.

I'd rather build with a xe in for that sort of money tbh

Be a shame to buy that then have a good go at trashing it

not too sure it would cost that to build, think its just because it has been built by Ford that he is asking what he is asking imo.

Pete,RS Specialists

i think you know a bit more on these Pete but lke i said, the price he wants is only because of its history.

if it never had the history then i would think it would be cheaper.

Too right they cost more than that to build !

A properly built shell can be worth 10k alone.

Add a highly tuned BDA on top and thats got to be another 15k easily.

And it goes on and on

Some of the bits on proper rally cars are rarely seen on good track cars tbh, mainly as the some of the huge costs can't be justified on something your really just having some fun with.

you do if you want to win,you also need the exact same period items to clasify for historic,
I know someone who uses this site thats given 10K just for a prepared and paint shell and that was half the actual build cost

Fooking hell mate was it 20k for this shell

I had an idea the Grp4 stuff was expensive but not this bad !!

A mate of a mate of mine runs a n/a cosworth mk2 in various rallys and has some gr4 bits on it and he did say the car was costing him over 40k

Depends who your paying Paul but I totally agree that shell would be worth that all day long. Did you sell Andys old red one ?

I've had enough offers on my shell from the paddys when the've been over, easily recoup what it owes me as they will pay big money for good group 4 shells.

Dave, if anything do the shell right first time round, as thats by far the most major bastard to do anything to once its painted

Your shell look damn clean and when its finished it would be worth a lot of money to the right person regardless of what ripspeed tat you bolt to it

pmsl at the 'ripspeed tat'

have been advised to get decent parts for it as its going to cost the same to fit the bits on,so i will be doing it proper.

going to RACE for most of the parts this week, they are supposed to be decent for parts, not the cheapest either.

ripspeed tat.

Tbh Paul I could hardly believe it when you had both those shells in your collection, certainly kept the better of the 2 though, its a work of art.

Not to keen on the very narrow axle though and 1.3 L steel wheels, I would change those IMO

Can't wait to see the finished article

Dave - I spoke to Fostek about an axle as my narrowed Gartrac one is now uselessto me , they use R.A.C.E shafts etc.. I think there was a article on them in Retro Ford a while back.

Only reason I've gone for Quaife is that if they can handle Terry Davies or Kev Warns launches up the pod then they are good enough for me

I thought the wheels were perfect Just need a repaint

I am buying a full spec axel from Fostek once i have saved enough brass washers

i think you car will get a bit more stick then mine as you are going on the strip with it,you will need the proper shafts.

mine will be on track now and again, but i may have to get decent shafts just to cope with the 350bhp.

more money.

Fostek done be a very sensible quote on a axle and tbh I'm still half tempted as it would be bolt on ready to go. but..

I just happened to come across a 52" wide axle and 1 brand new quaife shaft for very sensible money, all I need now is my LSD rebuilding and a shaft as I'm not sure about the ATB route.

45K for an original works MK2, very reasonable - It is not a bad price for a genuine car with history, though to be honest it is more of a museum piece than a historic rally car.......

In this time of millington engined cars in the 45-55K region a genuine works BDG 2 litre car is a rare and is cheap at 45K.....If only i had the money..........

cheap car,

but this car was built from a bare shell by the current owner,

the shell was bought cheap to turn into a rally car, and only when he found the ex works shell history out restored it to look like this,

not sure how far he went on the spec, but i know he built it up in about five years from buying parts,

so for not much more i would buy a genuine ex works car,

sean them for around 50k still original

i exspect most ex works car have been reshelled, but atleast the mech would be moved over.

thats why it looks cheap.
