no idea about the problem, I thought it was ticking over a bit lumpy the other day, got about 400 yards from my front door and it started hesitating and cutting out then just got worse I managed to get it down the hill off the main road and around the corner behind a hedge

it will start up and rev but the engine dies straight away as soon as you take your foot off the gas????

smells very petrolly out the back, all hoses seem to be in place etc etc.

she still looks gorgeous though

Possibly ECT or MAP sensor, or related wiring.

Cosworths, who'd have 'em?

sounds just like what I had with mine a few weeks ago mate, if its still small turbo and its chipped, try taking the expansion chip off the back of the ECU, and see if it runs, as it will be on its standard map now . If it is loose or the connections are dirty or worn it puts the car into limp home mode, and turns the fuel pump on constantly, which explains the fuel smell, and th rough running. Just turn the ignition off, and whip the chip out of the socket. The ecu is on the passenger side, in the footwell behind the kickplate to the bottom left of the glovebox ,

is the chip not soldered in??? do I just pull the chip out the car was chipped by TurboSystems. Funnily enough the car did gargle and cough when the chip was first put in then they went off and did #SOMETHING# and refitted the chip and it seemed fine!!!

You certainly can, yes, but ENSURE the ignition is off first.

Hi Andy, the best way to describe the chip on the small turbo is like a super nintendo/ sega megadrive cartridge, it just plugs into the back of the ECU , and basically tells the ecu to ignore the internal chip thats inside the box, and use the programme in the expansion cartridge. Just make sure the ignition is off, and pull the box off the back of the ECU. Car should then start and run on the standard chip. Just be careful of overboosting it with the uprated actuator on . If its the same that as happened to mine, the main ECU board connectors have gradually worn away, meaning the chip is loose on them, you can get this fixed by getting the lines re-soldered. However, as its byrons old car (how mint , I can't belive you sold it ) I can't see it having worn away the board so quickly, might just be a poor connector on the chip. If you have any probs tommorow give me a ring

Oh and regarding 300+BHP on the small turbo, watch this space there is a very very interesting project happening in Jan, can't say too much at the moment but might hopefully be getting 350ish on the small turbo management set up due to someone very clever playing with the car , which would be nice, as it would give a good power hike for much less hassle than converting the T25's back to webber
