Default How easy is it to steal a E39 BMW 5 series

The mother in law has had her E39 stolen and recovered, but the insurance are refusing to pay out on the basis that the steering lock is not broken and that when the car was recovered, the doors were locked and the ignition barrel is undamaged.

The only way I can see that this car was stolen was with a replacement key.

Suggestions welcome!!

Why does the insurance company need to pay out?

Forgive me for being stupid but IF the car has sustained no damage then surely.

Go with your key and get it back.

Key copied whilst in for a service.
Key retained by previous owner/dealer who sold it and sold on to others.

Was it deadlocked or just doors found to be closed?

Maybe picked up with hiab then dumped off the back of a lorry when they realised it was only a BMW

theres technicalitys and then theres,,,,,,,,,, well the cars been crashed in drink driving season,,,,, the cars got no damage apart from the flying propeller has been replaced by a lampost and he vehicle is now mid engined,,,,

sorry but my first thought is,,,,, WHERES THE SPARE KEY THEN MATEY !

after that i then would start asking about service history but i know that 80% of crimes start when people have kids who grow up and get mates and realise there thingy has another use other than to dribble pea pea down ya trouser leg

tbh i cant blame the insurance for not paying out its probs like ginge says either pissed and crashed it and panicked and says it been nicked lol or someone who has been in the house has took the spare key lol and gone for a long joyride etc.

TBH - I agree with most of the comments on here that something is not right, but I can only state what I've been told.

I'm gonna step away from this and leave it to the mother in law to sort this mess out.

Ginge....

unless they know how to crack BMW EWS I don't think a paperclip powered laptop will help!

BMWs are very hard to steal - hence the number that get car-jacked.

BMW's are easy to steal! You only need a VIN and a dodgy worker at a BMW dealership BUT there would be a record of the key being supplied. Doubt this has happened in this case though!!!
