Default Demon Internet - Problems Anyone?

This is starting to do my head in....

I've got Demon Broadband, and have been happy with it since July, up until recently when it has turned into utter dog-shit Co-incidentally, i've also had my upgrade to DSL Max last month, and it has got SLOWER. This afternoon i was getting 30kb/s, whilst downloading the same file at work at 250kb/s only minutes later.

Previously, i was on 1mb Demon Homeoffice (I'm a fair way out so that's all i could get) and got speeds of up to 100/110kb/s on http downloads/torrents. Since being upgraded to DSL Max i havent seen anywhere near that, and my line now shows as 500k down/400k up! If my line could handle a 1mb downstream before DSL max why can't it now?? It's got a bit faster this evening but still only doing 60kb/s, which is still only what you'd expect on 512k. BT and Zen's speedchecker say it will support 2mb! I'm starting to get the feeling i've been done here. Especially since reading the Demon forum on www.adslguide.org - looks like it's gone to pot in the past few months

see speedtest Here

I wish i could get NTL (it's that bad now )

My Linksys WAG54G router shows i'm sync'd with the exchange at 1024 up/500 down so what the hell is going on??

Did you not get the email about "fair usage policy" then?? It's no longer "unlimited" - which was the main reason i signed up. Think i'll be going to Zen shortly

I reckon they apply network monitoring and bandwidth throttling on the line. There is probably priority software that gives crappy speeds to P2P traffic and better for email, browsing etc.

Might be worth ringing up and asking them. Demon CS are usually OK.

Cheers

From what ive heard all SP's slow the speeds down during the hours of 8am and 10pm to save bandwidth etc so we all suffer during these hours. If you do a test later at nite say 12 or later you will find ure speed should increase as mine certainly does.Ive got telewst up to 4Mg and during the 'busy' hrs i see as little as 540 but after these hrs im getting 3994 etc so maybe worth trying that unless you can get another SP to supply a faster speed

just got a speed test done, thinking at this time it might speed up....320kbit

Another stroppy email has been sent after they blamed the contention ratio....which is utter bollocks, because that hasnt changed.

Also their email server is now bouncing emails. rubbish.

i'm sending to adslsupport@demon.net .... using the same account i used the other night when i got an email to go through, and received a response. somethings going well pear shaped at demon i think.

Their support are utter rubbish too, they are either german or dutch and really really hard to make ouit what they are saying. If you ask them something that isnt on script they get in a flap and then blame "unsupported hardware" or some other bollocks excuse. Unsupported hardware my arse...it's a linksys ADSL modem/router that works perfectly all over the world. It's only unsupported because they don't sell it themselves. mofos.

After a change of service they recommend you reboot the router regularly for the first week or so until the line runs at its best speed.
