I personally would not get a pod as they are over priced for the tech and restrictive
If You Like The iPOD look, this is similar to the nano in appearance and available from Maplins in th high street
The mobiBLU cube is pretty unique and available from Currys digital on the highsteet- ladies love the pink ones
The Creative Zen V 4GB is pretty good value at just over 100 quid and it looks and sounds pretty good
Me personally ive got 1gb Oakley Thump's in Black Uridium and Urban Comando finish.. can not handle a player hanging roung my neck
hope this helps

Just get the smaller iPod Nano, it's as good to use as the normal iPod. Nice and compact. Just doesn't have as much memory.
Still about 4GB's though!
Think you can pick them up for £90

Irritating c........

Ipods, as a player, are very very good. They are a bit fragile, and some have dodgy firmware, with lockups common and have been known to go into shutdown and wipe itself... But as a player, when they work, they are superb IMO. Navigation is spot on, track selection and playlist creation is great, and the UI is really good too....
Only problem is their limited connectivity. Can ONLY be used with iTunes, and you can ONLY use 1 per computer, and can't use them on other computers. Which is no good for me as I often plug mine (mine is actually my phone lol) into other PC's etc...
Just be wary of one thing - a lot of players are not "gapless" players, and will not play music tracks seamlessly, ie back to back with no gaps. Whilst this might not sound like a lot, it is increasingly annoying when your listening to an album where tracks runs into each other and the player puts a gap between the tracks!
Another point worth noting about hte above is the ipod shuffle - you cannot play whole albums in sequence! It's operation is in the title : "SHUFFLE" - it randomly plays tracks so you never know what you are gonna be listening to next!
Lastly, a note on player types. There are two types, solid state and hard drive. Solid state are like flash memory sticks - no moving parts, the memory is basically like a memory card. Firware and software is embedded into the memory which lets you use it as a player. Hard drive based players, like the bigger ipods (nano and shuffle are solid state) contain a mini hard drive inside, so you have moving parts - thus more to go wrong if it's dropped hard or misused. PLus just more to go wrong in general really.... But they offer far bigger capacties in terms of storage (the 8mb Nano is about the biggest solid state player out there)

I've had my Ipod for years now without fault. It has locked up on me twice in the 3 years I've had. It works flawless with my iTunes (which I love).
The way I see it, sell 10 (mp3) players and there is almost no fault to find at all...
sell 1,000,000,000 MP3 players and you will find faults because there are so many more. It's a fact with anything you buy (with the exception of windows computers.. they're all faulty)

Its got 2 settings, same as all iPods, will play continuously in order or will shuffle, whichever you choose.
Also you can use it on more than one PC, mine has been used on 3.
Ok so mine has now fucked up but as I got it through John Lewis they took care of sending it off to Apple etc.... got a full refund and gonna use that against an iPod Nano...... in Pink cos im a girl!
