Supercharger question??? updated :(
What happens if the belt comes off??
Was on the M40 last night in my mates Swift Gti thats supercharged, And we heard this noise that sounded like a firework ( we even looked for one )
Goes to put his foot back down, and nothing, no boost
Car drove fine, we pulled over.. looked underneath and the belt has vanished LOL
turns out that was the firework...
Could any damage have happened to the car?
Or would it work out as a very expensive air filter? LOL
shame as its pretty rapid
Cheers

yeah will run fine free wheeling. poottling about you'll notice no difference really (espically if you have 2 valves per cylinder) but opening up to higher engine speeds it'll just hold back and will feel like a brick wall when opening up.
Belts can do alot of damage when they let go, but it depends on the type of belt and width, much like a cam belt depends if it has a cover or not. I've seen alternator belt lets go b4 and they can be quite distructive as I've had one litterally expoded on me before!

Not good news im afraid!
After 18 months of trouble free and enjoyable drivin the s/c is dead!
i found that the oil feed to the s/c had split, thus all the special traction oil leaked out, causing the s/c to cease! The belt then burnt itself off!
At least the car is still drivable but sooooo slow!
Just hope it can be re-built as the new stronger engine is going in soon with over 250bhp!
Feel like i just wanna give up and just get a normal car
But then i would o wasted 4yrs and alot of money for nothing!
