Default Log book question again! Please help

Right guys, chap i am getting or may be getting car off sent for log book about 5 weeks ago in my name for me. This week it still hadnt turned up so i asked him to contact dvla. He did and they said they had no record of the application. Now, i know they send a letter to previous owner etc but what are the chances of NOT getting a log book? I just dont want to buy it and be lumbered with it if i cant get a log book But im wanting it cos i want a project

Get a Full Reciept from the vendor, and get a letter from him addressed to the dvla,(then posted recorded/ special delivery) stipulating that he has sold the car and sent off the V5.
then, make a application witha V62 form to the dvla ( plus Ł19 ) and wait for the 'book to arrive. simple!

my problem is, it's taking them so long to do a bloody number plate swap, my tax is going to run out before i get the new logbook thru no doubt

so, what do you do in this situation? i can't legally tax the car, and i can't legally not tax the car

I sent off the bit the last owner should have about a week ago - new one turned up today

That was just straightforward though, sounds like you lot have probably got a different dept. with reg swaps and all...
