Hi Stu,
A mate of mine has just bought a brand new 1.8 focus turbo diesel estate, Titanium. He has been looking at getting it chipped and I immediately thought to send him your way as he is based in Manchester area.
Is it safe? What power do u tend to get roughly, how much does it roughly cost and is it something he can remove if he require warranty work?
Thanks in Advance - Steven RW
ps PM me back if u want, just thot u might have so many PM's that u might miss this one!

Anyone else who is reading this:
Do the basic chips for upgrading a Turbo Diesel purely dump more fuel in by convincing the ecu that the engine is cold? Doesn't sound the right way to do it to me. I heard that from one of my friends who is not someone u would call "up on tuning engines" lol![Grin](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
What does the basic mod do? Do u need to up the boost and the fuel which is my guess and then check that its working correctly?
Cheers

Hello all,
Rick here, the said mate with the new Focus.
RW - Here's some very basic bumf from the FAQ section of the website of the company I've been considering buying the chip from which nutshells how it works:
"How it Works:
Todays diesel engines have many sensors which are controlled by the vehicles ECU these signals are processed many thousands of times in one second to maintain that the vehicle is running at its optimum efficiency and keeping the emissions and economy at acceptable levels.
The idea behind the tuning box is to intercept the signal between the ECU and the injection system usally the common rail and basically allows it to inject more fuel into the cylinders thus producing more torque and power, and because of this the engine is running more efficiently the fuel consumption is also improved because you would have to use less throttle for similar conditions."
I'm really interested in hearing from anyone with any independant first hand experience on these things though before I go sticking anything in my new baby![Wink](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)

Thats an advert for a tuning box, not a proper ECU chip. Tuning boxes do give power, but its purely from sticking in tons of fuel, so you end up with clouds of black soot all the time and not as much power as getting a proper chip designed for your car.
A lot of the diesel chips on the market not only offer extra power, but smoother running, better fuel consumption and less smoke. I cant speak personally for MSD, but you should try giving them a ring. Anywhere that knows its stuff will gladly give you real information. Not internet claims
