Default FAO Any RTOC members or GTT experts...

Can someone either help me, OR post on the RTOC forum to ask as im not paying to be a member jus to ask a few lil questions...

I think im right in saying ALL R5 shocks are interchangable right? As the ones from the vans are somtimes used on GTTs as they harder than std?

What about rear beam/subframe/torsionbars? They a right pain in the arse to change and if they all very similar be it base model or top model, i wont bother.

What bout front subframe, wishbones, etc? They same or totaly different? I got a GTT front subframe here, but im lazy...

And ive lost my haynes manual, where do the plugs from the Ign module go again? Dizzycap, timing sensor, the vac pipe to the carb, knock sensor, is there more?

Theres prob more questions but at mo, i forget...

my god , this brings back memories

if i had the car in front of me i could wire it up

as for the rear, i think it's all the same as the rest, though the turbo has rear disc's no other model does, well except he 1.7

front shocks....mmm not sure, aren't the hubs different?

ah i forgot you had one too!

Yea if i had it in front of me i probably could wire it up too, but havent got it all here so wana be sure...

Im not sure if GTTs and the vans had diffent torsion bars (ignoring the drums), as remember once hearing that the vans torsion bars were stiffersome how than the GTTs (they act partly like an anti-roll bar i think), and so im wondering if base model ones are softer still?
This info may have been confused with shock absorber stiffness, im not sure...

Fronts im unsure off, but got a full GTT frontend still here anyhow, just if i dont need to change stuff, i dont wana for fun! But then again, the anti-roll bar and steering rack i bet is different...
I remembert phase1 GTT wishbones were different to phase2s somehow, but think that mightve just been geometry changes so nowt that affects fitting, im not sure.

Ah fuck knows, its been an age since i did all this

I gotta recon, rebuild, and "GrpA" a carb tomorrow, but im sure i remember how to do all that

just thought, the rear for the std cars would be softer as the torsions bars would not be loaded up so much.

and the gtt had shorted shocks to counter act the loaded up torsion bars

the rear torsion bars yea? thought so

think base model ones were well soft, then GTTs, then the Masters or whatever the vans were called.

i wonder how much of a difference, hmmm...

yea thats deffo right on the drop, but im thinking of actual stiffness of the torsion bar setup between cars (if all are set at same height) as the torsion bars replace the springs, so the stiffer the torsion bar, the stiffer the spring at that set height.

argh, you jus reminded me how much of a wanker it is to lower the back, gotta love seized solid torsion bars...

yeah seized, bars are a fooker

soak in WD40 or something

i think they might be the same then, less load on bars, more stiffness

oh pikey racing...

just a term... for getting a cheap car... putting it together with cheap performance and value per pound as number one priority... mainly done DIY.

like budget racing or something if you get what i mean.

sure we've spoke about it before
