Manual

my old dear has just bought a C2 'stop start' (the one where the enigne turns itself off everytime you stop at junctions )

it has paddle shift gears aswell as normal auto option, but i just didn't like it,felt i didn't have full control for some reason, probably just my poor ability to drive the damn thing

After having auto in US i love them. Takes a lot of hassel out of it and just waft along chilling out!!

Most modern autos change gear at right time and you dont know its changing half the time

when looking for an everyday car i decided that i wanted an auto as its much smoother in traffic and less hassle!
i had the option of buying a manual 5 series but opted for an auto 535i sport with tiptronic.its an excellent package and even in economy mode its a quick car-even better in sports mode

all depends on what car it is, the lexus had a auto box so did the range rover and it suited them both, but both were over 4ltr. The lexus would change up into 3rd while still spinning the wheels
as mentioned smaller engined cars tend to be a ball ache with slush boxes.

Manual.

I like to do the driving and when in an auto I feel like I'm being taken partly out of control.

Rhys, you need to be getting a bus pass mate!!
Ya don't even have to waste energy turning the steering wheel or pressing the pedals then..

Feckin auto??!! constant slipping clutch and a mind of it's own.. nooo thanks, I want to decide when I change gear ta.. and don't believe the modern ones change "at the right time" cos they bloody don't

Totally agree you need large capacty or torque to make autos work well. As i drove a 1.6 Focus auto in USA and omg it was like a sowing machine Deffo need biggish engine or i think TDI might be ok with it torque.

Dunno, im a lasy driver and tbh i cant be arsed to drive fast anymore. Well unless i have mad 5 mins. Jusr REALLY fancy getting auto as im fed up being stuck in traffic, clucth in, clutch out etc mehhh rubbish, i dont want to hassel...
