Well lanes rollers are reknown for being all over the shop, standard cars seem to make standardish power and all seems well, then you'll get someone with a T34 .63 making something daft like 400+ at 26-28psi
John Nobles rollers seem to be quite consistent and honest, only complaints I've heard about them is that people dont get the results that they expect

Pete i wouldn't bother throwing money away at another rollers, you know it goes like shit, my cossy made 412bhp & 350lb of torque, so yours is about right power wise, who cares if the graphs a bit out, get some tippex on it lol...

What does it matter what the rollers say? it is who's in front that matters! LOL
I was gona get mine on rollers next year but not gona bother wasting money if not gona be accurate!
as long as each is happy with their own, then who cares!

the power figures are usually not that far out at well lane but the revs they make that power at are,as they usually just guestimate the rpm at peak power and the rest of the graph works backwards from that.the torque figures are usually well out as well.
think mine made 263hp and 200lb/ft torque it will spin the wheels in second in the dry and in third in the wet so i think the torque is way more than that.
plus they had to run it in 6th gear on the rollers with three of us sat on the slam panel to stop it spinning when it came on boost.

By the sounds of things quite a few of the reading were out, Still a good day out though

the motorway could of been down to gearing? yours seem to have a short legged box that tops out at 140 in fith? i was in sixth at that point as i usually bypass 5th as its fooked usually jumps out.so went straight from 4th to 6th.it will pull 160+ in 6th. not dissing your car in any way it just might explain why yours accelerates as fast as mine does?

it's doin' my head in now... it looks like the computer does takes ur bhp, does some maths and then gives u a ft.lb figure, the way the car pulls i felt let down with 370ft.lbs (not bothered about the graph) so i'm going to go somewhere else to c what happens....but by the by it was still a good day...especialy scott in his M3 dropping gears to try to keep up....i just floored it in 5th....bye

If torque and RPM are bollox, what chance does your BHP graph stand then?

hi stu
- sorry if this sounds ike a dim question but if the turning force is measured correctly (and this i guess should be easy given modern technology) and there is no slip on the rollers, and the rpm is measured (surely the easiest of all to measure) and the gearing is known, why is there so much discrepancy between rolling roads, apart from 'wanting the customer to go away happy'?

The biggest issue, and i am far from an expert on rolling roads, but i am working from common sense here, is frictional losses between the item of measurement and the powerplant.
Tyres, hubs, brakes, transmissions, not to mention the silly coastdown losses some rollers calculate. I saw 395bhp on one
Can you imagine 395bhp lost in heat!!
Of course another issue, and i suspect this is the case in question with some of this weekends graphs, is load. Load, for the newbies can be translated to teh real world as your gears effect on teh engine.
Your turbo car will make less power and boost in first than it does 5th.
Try it and see...
Nasp cars normally fair FAR better on a crap set of rollers than a turbocharged one with a peaky power delivery.
What test car was used for what i call "Crowd Calibration?"
A NASP one as usual?

hi stu - im fine hope you are too.
why should the engine make less power in lower geras, is this because the load on the engine is dropping much quicker (faster accel) so boost doesny climb, and could this concept therefore be theoretically not true if say the brakes were held on - yeah i know this would also make the rr figures wrong as well!

Cant really tell with a vid Pete, but the Tach seems to accelerate hardest and fastest at about 3800/4200rpm.
Is that when it seems to pull its hardest and most vicious on teh road?

pretty much straight after our conversation i asked the operator if he could put extra load on the rollers so i can peak more realisticly he replied "wouldnt make a difference as its different to a road ie real situation "
my car is hitting 32 psi again once on the road (little down for some reason)
was still a great day but i would like an acurate reading at some point
