Another example of what's wrong with our justice system...
"A rapist who was caught by a group of people after he attacked a woman on a footpath has been jailed for life."
"Jailing Walsh for a minimum of nearly six years..."
Since when is that a life-sentence, if he can get out in under six years? Life should mean exactly that, no chance of parole, no chance of getting out, no contact with the outside world, nothing!

And the "luxuries" we give to prisoners are also appauling...
A jail sentence should be as harsh as it sounds......a ten-foot square stone room, open-barred window (no glass that can be shattered to use as a cutting tool), an open hole in the wall (again, no bucket or porcelain toilet that can be broken to use as a weapon), bunkbeds (why should you expect privacy?) so two people to a cell (although the people sharing would need to be vetted so you don't put incompatible people together), an hour's exercise outside per day, only let out of their cell for three square meals a day, no TV, no radio, no satellite, hard labour.
And definitely none of what I saw heading in the other direction on the motorway a while ago on the way to work......Moira Hindley (from memory), in an armoured prison-truck, escorted by about six patrol/escort vehicles (filled with armed officers), with normal motorway-patrol cars blocking each lane of the motorway about half a mile behind them, on the way to her father's funeral, at GREAT expense to the taxpayer......sorry, harsh as it might sound, but she chose to do the crime, so she should have missed it.
