Default mondy 4x4

I know this has probably been covered a million times, but I dont care!
How much power do you all think mondy 4x4 running gear can take? ( gearbox, diff and transfer box) I want to 4x4 my focus and this looks the easiest route without chopping the bulkhead and the floorpan out.
Or had anyone done it?
Ta in advance

Sorry
I'd be sticking with the 2.0 blacktop thats already in there, with a view to turboing or supercharging when I can get 5 grand to do it properly!

im sure that'd be fine for the std 2.0ltr engine but i'm not sure what power the running gear you mention would take?

It might be worth exploring the use of mitsy evo running gear, im sure there are a few breakers around. The engine position is more similar to a fwd car and its also very strong... one posibility anyway

My welding skills are basic mate to say to very least. I'm not chopping my floor pan out! I'm 99% sure that the mondy stuff will fit with only my spare wheels well chopped out. ( and the exhaust re routed. )

That might well be a good starting point, if you end up putting more power thru the transmission then you can then start thinking about uprating it... im sure quaife would do a kit for that box

That car was in the intermediate group at Nat Day in 2005.It was a smokey roadblock that day and spent all its time between sessions up on axle stands.I dont know what was wrong with it,but it was a heap of sh*te on track.Regards,Micky

mondy 4x4 use the same sort of running gear as rs2K 4x4 iirc good because it utilises the transverse engine position but need to uprate transfer box i believe to take over 250bhp. but as said evo running gear can be made to fit

this has got me thinking , i wonder how hard it would be to convert my st24 (mk2) mondy to 4wd or even rear , i guessing that the problem would be with the gearbox and transfer box as the 4wd was only on a 2.0 zetec

the reyland mondeo is actually 4wd and as to the evo gear
DJM motorsport have modified a cosworth engine to take
4wd and have mounted it transversly so may want to speak to them

He is right. Mondeo uses Cosworth 4x4 running gear.

Why would anyone want to build a 500bhp FWD car??!?!?! never understood that!

This is what 300bhp does to a RS2000 4x4 transfer box

This was an uprated one, much more than 200 bhp and they are toast, you cant buy a new one and no new parts are available.

Indeed.

But on that note, what DO 20Vs run?

(Going a bit off topic, but what managment did Integrales run? Did evos run P8? Did 16v's ran L8? Ad ive never heard owt about what 8valves ran...)

intergrales used weber marelli, but not the same as the cosworth models afaik

i just picked up a complete ecu and wiring loom from a lancia dedra (not delta, before anybody tries to correct me,) intergrale for a bargain price! will probably be making its way onto a metro

so fiat coupe's ran p8... hmm... i've got an idea!

Davey C - if you really want to do this and have over 280 bhp you will need the transfer box uprated as there was a 300BHP RS2000 that was featured in fast ford and performance ford and he had the transfer uprated and no issues - i think he got it done at cts and he also had the oil capacity increased at the same time

I'm thinking more along the lines of an xr4x4/Saff Ghia floor pan and a donor shell to chop up afer seeing that pic!
I would prefer to have as little fabrication as poss, but if I do it, I've gotta do it properly or it'll be shite

yeah it wont be simple but you should check out the other projects on this forum as there are a few people doing RWD and 4WD conversions
and ask them if you are unsure and check some engineering books
the simplest way i see it would be just to use the floorpan out of the sierra
and leave the engine bay area as standard so no grafting together bulkheads etc. and this would mean the mounting points would already be on the floorpan from the sierra so minimum fabrication
