Not a points offence, but the dibble can give you a fine and a vehicle defect form which means you have to get the right plate and then re-mot the car, which is a pain in the arse...

I keep my proper one in the boot in case of a pull..

True

They seem to be clamping down on small plates due to the increase in use of ANPR.

I've ran piss taking plates on the back of my bikes for ten years, plus a small one on the front of my old saph.

This year I've had 2 VDR's for small plates though

i have been fined and then had to put the standard size plate on and take it too a mot station and let them look at it and then they stamped a ticket which then had to be produced with my docs.

just keep a standard one in the boot.

my pal had H6RNY on his jeep and the 6 looked like a 0 so it read HORNY. the 6 was actually within the legal sizes and we were driving through windermere one night and plod pulls us over and asks me to get out and then starts telling me about the 'illegal' number plate. so i start laughing he smells alcohol and asks me if i've had a drink. thinking quickly i tell him yes about 5 pints and he invites me over to the police car to breath test and i start crying laughing cos its a left hand drive and i wasn't driving he is not amused but his colleague is.

anyway my mate gets a producer and plod decided to prosecute him for illegal plates. my mate knew they were legal so fights the case in court. even though his plates were within the spec he loses the case and gets the press involved. the sun decided to fight his case and on appeal the case was dropped

I've looked into the legality of cut down plates before. From what I can see there is no specified size of plate. The only specs are as Phil says are the size of the letters, the size of the border around them and the spacing. As long as they are correct then I see no reason for a cut down plate to be illegal.

I've had cut down plates for years and not had one producer.

as said the worst is vehicle defect form unless its a car with a personal plate then they report you to dvla ( cunts)

I got a vehicle defect for,,,,,, but that was after a copper took off my velcro'd on small plate as it was the second time he tugged me for it,,,,, so i never replaced it and was when i was driving through a police trap i got the vehicle form,,,,,,

but tbh,,,,,, i aint got the time to have things on may car that i KNOW will get me a tug

main reason is imagine if i got a mate in the car whos on "TAG" and i offer to take him home, get a tug and hes past his curfew to get home,,,, he goes backk to serve his full sentance and all because i wanted to have a tiny plate on the car,,,,,, yeah well worth it mate

not to mention you are giving the old bill a reason to pull you,,,,, as they cant just pull you cause the cars iffy they need a reason and tbh,,,, i dont like being tugged a certain times/places as ,,,,, well its not worth it again

just keep em legal and if ya wanna show off then,,,, well fit neon washer jets in green

a lot of evo owners are taking their front plates off altogether ! and getting away with it , claiming there is no flat surface on the car to fit one to! , i was speaking to a chap recently who downloaded some stuff off dvla website , stating that non standard letters and plates can be used on imported cars , cant we claim ours have been imported from germany lol

I got a £30 fine for a small plate on my bike the same night as I had been buzzing a speed camera head on at naughty speeds I was not bothered about the fine but the fact that my bike was on camera doing X mph in a 40 limit and that some copper could ID my bike

I heard nothing and left on the small plate, the offense was "No number plate" as because it was too small it was not a real one Better off having no plate and paying the fines, at least when they give you a "Q" you will not give a shit

I didn't have any problems when I had a small one on the saff but 2 of my mates got £30 fines for them. One who has a private plate got told if he was caught again he would lose the plate.
Only problem I had was at MOT time, on the failure sheet it said front number plate 'lettering' of incorrect size and spacing, nothing about the actual size of the plate.

Small number plates are shit. They know you are taking the piss because you have purposely made a smaller number up to break the law....

on my old cabby i had a plate that was 1/4 the size of a normal one.

i got a std plate, cut in half, and thenin half again, printed some letters out of the pc in a different font and then cut them out of black fablon.

but it did have a reflective backing

anyway, got a £30 fine for the pleasure...

on the sx i just didnt bother with a front plate, got 2 producers and no fine.

if you have a small plate its illegal and finable

if you got no plate its illegal but as your not taking the piss you only get a producer so i have found

heres the car lol
