Default Car Insurance cover due soon?

Hi Guys,

It's been a while since we last "beat the drum" and there are a number of you that do kindly recommend us when people post Insurance questions on here.

The official link to the PF area of our website for scheme info and access to quotations for cover is www.greenlightinsurance.com/passion_ford.php

So... if you need a hand, you know where we are

Kind regards

Tony

Hi Dan,

Vehicle wise, we tend to stick to what we know (ie. performance, modified, custom & kit built cars) and we currently do not offer bike cover.

I do take your point that bikes are popular right now, but in as much as we are performance/modified car nuts that also do Insurance, the guys that write bike insurance are usually bikers/bike nuts and you are far more likely to get a better deal from them than us on a bike policy right now.

Many thanks for thinking of us though

Kind regards

Tony

Hi Matt,

There should be a decent reduction (several hundred pounds off the annual premium) for moving from your existing postcode to Halifax.

This will be really helpful to us as your agent and opens up other schemes to use from renewal - overall good news

Kind regards

Just had a quote from Greenlight that I'm very happy with , and will be moving my insurance to them.

Would like to add that I've NEVER spoken to an insurance company that understands the modified car market anywhere near as well as Greenlight do!

I'm EXTREMELY impressed with their knowledge of the various modifications that car enthusiast do to their vehicles (and why) - they're second to no one in my book!!

Huge thanks to Tony and his staff and also to Stu & Pet' for their association with Greenlight, for the benefit of PF members

Hi Tony

My car is my second car, and as such, my no claims is currently on my day car.

Given the above, are you able to provide a sensible quote?

do you do an insurance policy for cars of the road?

i am building a cosworth based kit car and was wondering if i could get a policy that will cover me if anything happened,ie it gets pinched etc

plus there is more expensive bits that go into a build, compared to a standard car.

or do i just have to get it covered on my house policy.
cheers

whats the score with insuring 2 cars with you? can you give a discount for a 2nd car as obviously the no claims are tied up by the main car?

Hi Chip,

The ring situation currently varies from Insurer to Insurer.

With it being an EU "B" road, Insurers are obliged to provide the minimum cover required within the respective EU country, which for Germany I believe is TPO.

If they confirm within their documentation that they do not cover race tracks or are specific enough to list the ring, Insurers will contest this on the basis that this is a race track that does not get you from town A to town B - it is an 18 mile round trip that gets you about 200 yds away from where the journey began & there is really only one reason for being there.

I have persisted with the Insurers that we deal with on the basis that they cover Monte Carlo & the Isle of Man etc. , but this still remains a grey area that Insurers will contest.

If an Insurer has paid a claim upon the ring this would potentially be seen by the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) as setting a president and assuming aware of the Insurer/client in question would assist anyone presenting a claim for damage following attendance of the ring.

With regard to "track cover" there is a company that specialises in offering "Accidental Damage" cover whilst on track (www.moris.co.uk), which is fine for covering your vehicle. But this does not cover TP liability for damage caused to property or other vehicles.

The exposure to TP liability at the ring is huge, both due to the driving conditions (ie. track difficulty, speed, number of vehicles) and the fact that the Ring control everything if a claim occurs, seemingly trying to maximise the funds paid (ie. their recovery service, they replace barriers, they charge downtime for the track, air ambulance) - which clearly is far greater exposure than usually incurred by an Insurer upon a UK or other EU road.

I know the situation with regard to confirmation as to Insurance cover surrounding the ring is not ideal, but unfortunately the current state of play is that they would probably decline to offer cover and you would have to contend the claim with your Insurer as, when or if an incident arose.

We are still trying to source an entity that would guarantee cover for TP/AD whilst on the ring, but the premiums that we are encountering are horrendous (£1k+) thus the search continues.

Kind regards

Tony

Hi Tiff,

All is well thanks.

With regard to BMW's, we do not currently have a scheme in place for most of their models and thus look for open market quotations whenever presented with one.

Your best bet would be to pop the wife's details upon our website www.greenlightinsurance.com/passion_ford.php so that our quote team can start sourcing rates for you.

Hope all's well with you.

Kind regards

Hi,

A number of you have requested what we can do for 2nd cars, so here goes....

We may be able to source a quotation for you with an Insurer that would "mirror" your NCB percentage to a 2nd vehicle.

This is far easier to do for everyday vehicles with everyday Insurers, so if you were looking for cover from us our advice would be to look to put the NCB on the perceived high risk (ie. high performance) vehicle, which would give us the best opportunity to negotiate a decent rate - then look for a 2nd car introductory concession for the everyday vehicle.

For an idea of a premium, pop your high risk vehicle details onto www.greenlightinsurance.com/passion_ford.php with the NCB level that is on the 1st car. This will give you an idea what we can do for the specialist vehicle, then we can look separately for the 2nd everyday car.

Kind regards

Hi Banham,

We can cover constructed kit cars, but do not currently deal with an underwriter that would offer cover for parts awaiting construction.

As you correctly identified, a household Insurer may be able to do this.

We are looking into household cover with a national Insurer, that will allow the option of car parts (within secure building/garage) to be covered under their policy.

The aim is to offer all risks cover to car audio equipment (within a locked vehicle), along with cover within garage/locked outbuilding for vehicle parts (ie. alloy wheels that may be stored whilst standard wheels are switched onto vehicle for winter - or vice versa).

We're negotiating at the moment, but hope to have this additional cover available under a household policy available for early next year.

Kind regards

Tony

how would you go about insuring 2 or 3 cosworths then? , as you know, I have my escort cossie insured with yourselfs at the current time, and I also have a project sapphire in the garage which I hope to build next year, and will be keeping both cars, is there any way that both cars could be put on one policy or would I have to have 2 seperate policys?

I don't seem to get much luck..
Minimum premium for stg1 4x4 @ £400-odd is a fair bit more than i get presently.
So I gave it a go with my road car - Octavia RS... sadly declined to quote, and won't offer cover for Octavia/Fabia RS models specifically at all

Hi Will,

Your Underwriter wouldnt be able to put both cars on the same policy, but providing you're free from non-recoverable claims within the last 4 years we should be able to obtain a "mirrored bonus" concession for you.

Although you would still have to gain the years as usual, your percentage discount would be matched across to the 2nd policy.

We can also obtain concessions to reflect limited/low mileage for you and with the build in mind you could go for a low mileage option to further reduce the premium.

Either way, when youre thinking of doing this I'm sure we can do something for you.

Kind regards

Tony

Hi Secs,

It's never ideal processing a quote on minimal information, as there are too many factors that influence the premium.

We really do need full details to be able to guarantee a quotation for you as we have access to both specialist schemes and "open market" rates.

Our schemes will be quoting in the region of £450, assuming that everything else (in addn to what you describe below) is acceptable and you havent run down too many bus queues recently!

Open market rates are more unpredictable, as they are the respective Insurers live rates and constantly fluctuate. They are however often more competitive than scheme rates for older drivers with standard cars.

To obtain an accurate idea, simply pop your details onto www.greenlightinsurance.com/passion_ford.php it will only take a few minutes and you'll get an accurate idea.

In the meantime, thanks for the message.

Kind regards

Tony

Tony,

I was with greenlight just over 2 years ago now and worked up 6yrs ncb but when i sold my fiesta and the insurance expired, i never bought another performance car so never used the insurance elsewhere and was just wondering if the bonus would still be able to be used with you or will i have left it to late now
Thanks,
Marc.

Hi Marc,

If it's been over two years, just about every underwriter in the country will not accept this and you will have to start from scratch.

However, if it is literally a month or two over I will try and negotiate on your behalf to save your NCB. But you would need to literally cover a vehicle immediately if they agree to do this.

Can you PM me your full name, along with the postcode that you were living at whilst Insured with us so that I can investigate.

Kind regards

Tony

Thanks for your interest Tony,
No need to look it to though as im not going to be back in the UK till early next year Just wanted to check if the NCB did expire in the 2 year period or if it was at the insurers/greenlight descreation as it seemed ashame to lose the bonus i worked up but i suppose thats my fault for not buying another modded car in time
I do however have 5 years built up on another policy which i was using for my everyday runner so might just have to use that for my discount on my next performance car and im pretty sure i will be coming back to greenlight for a quote
Just wanted to check my options
Thanks again,
Marc.
