Thats harsh mate, i have left the bonnet on the latch before the 3dr doesnt even had a curved bonnet due to the front grill, God knows how i got away with that as I was giving it some big boost on at the time

Only realised when i got home and looked at the car then thought Hmmmmmmmmm that doesnt look right

Glad you didnt hit amything though!

Thank you everyone for your words. Highly appreciated. I just keep thinking about what could have happened and how bad it could have been. I shouldn't do that really. That other car was so so close.

Also, thanks for the offer's of help from people. HIGHLY appreciated. I will have a go at sorting something locally, purely for convenience, but if not, I might just be taking someone up on their offer!!

Can I tell you this, though. It is rude as fuck. Goes like an absolute MISSILE!!

Christian

I cant understand why people dont use bonnet pins on ANY mk4 escort..

I have no bonnet catch, so the pins are needed anyway on mine

Chris, get it sorted mate, I know what you mean re: is it worth it on the shell.

Unless u know its a fucked shell...

Onwards and upwards

Stu, yes a moment of distraction and look whats happened!! Nasty.

Once the bonnet and windscreen are out of the picture, it doesn't look so bad. I am hoping that I can just put another bonnet on it for now, then make a descision about what direction to take.

The frustrating part is that the shell is really good everywhere, but the roof has the dreaded you-know-what.

as others have said, the car is perairable, you might not have been so lucky
it's s sign from above to make sure your bonnets closed, i can't remember how many times i've driven the car and though, "hang on" and got out and closed the bonnet

fit it, you know you want to

You can drive to Ipswich like than im sure -New styling - The new must have look Im sure it will catch on a treat

Glad all is ok and not to much done! But why the fook have clips and not use them lol

I was driving to the pid the weekend when my bonnet fucket up saw it ratteling about luckily only as i have raisers and thought wtf it dont usualy jump about like that, pulled over and it just would not lock down the catch was fooked!! So took the vent out and cabled tied through the holes of where the screws go for the bonnet vent with it out to the slam panel and carried on to get there Not ideal but it worked! And its scared the life out of me about bonnets flying up i was lucky to see it was not shut! Who knows what could have happened if not, considering i was raciing alex at 120 + at times on the way! On a private track of course

Yes, I'm sure the first thing he did was check he had a full compliment of fingers so he could still get on PF to break the news

Christian: saw the "can I drive with no bonnet" topic and now realise why! I thought you were having some work done on the bonnet and had to leave it somewhere, not that you'd done something like this.

If the roof's dented, get it re-skinned (which will take out the rust you have) then replace scuttle (think these are around Ł15) and bonnet. Job done, one mint car again.

such a simple thing to slip your mind really sorry for you

you should really think about a work system (or work practice) so it cant happen again (like everytime you unclip the bonnet pins,, place the pins on the steeringwheels

You goon!

I wouldn't worry about the roof for now - just slap a bonnet on, and worry about it later.

As long as it still goes well, that's the most important thing....

How lucky not to smash it up properly though if you span it!

Fuck that mate. glad you and the car are ok tho, could have been alot worse by the sound of it.

Gutted to see that as it can really put you off from high speed runs.

As Richpon says i would strap a new bonnet and winscreen in it and worry about the roof at a later date.

Goodluck with it mate, as its nice to hear that a 1.6 cvh is pushing the boundarys beyond all expectations
