then its 256 miles to the ring,so 512 return,so call that 60 quid TOPS in a 205gti

then camping is 35 quid for 4 nights
theres a lidl that has bbqs and booze aplenty down the road,no more than 10 quid a night for everything! so 4 nights thats 40 quid
thats 345 quid,for TWO people!

fuck paying another 1700 quid to stay in a hotel!

I didnt intentionally call you a liar at all, i badly worded my post, but still, it seems you have missed out:

Fuel to ferry place.
Travel insurance.
Car insurance.
European breakdown cover.

I see you say it cost you £10 a day for enough food AND beer to get 2 people fed and pissed? Sorry but i fail to see that being true unless you weigh 4stone each and easily get hammered off 1/2 a pint each?

Also, i thought you said £300 for 10 nights? Now its £345 for 4 nights as i read it?

And bollocks to camping in teh mountains in that fooking weather too, but thats a personal thing and im sure you loved it!!

I did the Ring a few years ago as a passenger with Mike R and a few of the old skool lot, and I didn't spend all that much.

Depends how you want to view the trip. Neil S and myself went in Mike's Escort and can't have spent more than £350, even though we drank ourselves into a coma two nights running! I wonder what happened to that road sign

Personally, I wont be going this year as I simply can't afford it whilst saving to buy a flat. Jay - you don't HAVE to go mate, and if money's tight, then just go as a passenger.

As for the car, of cours it's a little gutless, but that's the price you pay whilst you're young and struggling with insurance costs.

I went with mike in the saff and also managed it for reasonable cost! As a passenger its really not all that bad! If you are there with plenty people you know then you can get plenty passenger rides...unless martin is there and ALWAYS bagging the rides

It costs the same insurance as the Beemer!

But don't get me wrong, I do like it. I feel I have to go to the ring in 07 to rectify a few things from 06, such as hardly getting to drive (1 lap! ) as I was really looking forward to it and it didn't live up to my expectations due to lack of funds. The social side was great and being on track was great, just wasn't enough of the track action for me, despite the much appreciated efforts of Chip who went out of his way for me, and also Stu who took me out and I'm sure there were a couple of others too.

Would be really nice to go and repay a few favours. And I knew after my first day there last time, I had to return with my own car. 07 it is baby!

People on here are quoting costs for 2 people not 1.

Also, no i was not joking about fuel costs, as fuel is NOT free. Nor were teh hotels and sandwiches and pizzas you also missed out of your £300 itinerary.

Jay - from my experience, track "action" is always limited at the Ring.

That's why I loved it as a passenger - jumped in with Mike R, Martin, Porkie, loads of scoobs, Ringmini etc and just chucked me some cash towards the lap or paid em in beers...

Compared to a normal trackday, the actual lapping of the circuit isn't as rewarding as driving a track in this country IMO - very different way of approaching them as tracks.....

I drove the ring as hard as i would a track here, but then that meant i was taking the same risks, hence coming back with no car

I've never done a UK track day. I always mean to get involved but as I'm totally shite at being organised, stuff is always booked up by the time I try to do so.

That one lap of the ring in the Swift is the ONLY track driving I have ever done!

Well, aside from go karts

I will work out my expected budget to sail there this time instead of drive and post it on teh official topic. And i promise not to miss out any fuel to get to teh boat, pizza's to eat in Italy or sandwiches that you wont find for free.

Wouldnt want anyone to get stranded starving and left to die on the last day of teh trip because we forgot to mention a few important items such as a fuel source for teh cars and humans....

On a serious note I am guessing at around £1K.

the hotels pizza and sandwiches ARE included in that price!i took 360 quid with me and spent a fair few bob of that before we left on gettin pissed the night before,i had NO more money in my bank account so that was it! when we went shopping do you think we didnt buy bread and sandwich fillings for the next day also? the pizzas we had were about 3-4 quid! so yes the 10 day trip was 600 for 2 people, but even so,my costings for YOUR trip come to 345 for 2 people, and are FAR short of the 2k quoted by someone on here,my 345 quid includes food bought for breakfast lunch and tea AND alcohol. and even IF you were to stay in a cheap hotel i dare say that price for 2 MIGHT just rise to 500 quid between them,so saving a LOT!
i know fuel isnt free but it was only 20 quid and wasnt in anyones imagination going to amount to over 1500 quid!
my trip was £600 between 2 people, that included 2200 miles (from home and back!)2 ferry trips, 2 nights at amsterdam,a bloody good 2 nights out in amsterdam,a trip around the heineken factory,2 nights at the ring,5 laps of said ring, all 3 days of the italian gp,a tour of the ferrari museum,2 nights in hotels, many good laughs, brilliant company and a trip focused on fun and motoring!

I'm gonna pay for the Ferry this week, then I'm going to leave it until January and bang away £200 - £250 a month til we go. That should see me through no worries I would have thought

I guess that's why I thought about buying a cheapo car to take. Figured I could get it in the next 6 weeks and spend some time going around it changing stuff like bearings, brakes, any suspension bits that want doing, that kind of thing.

Anyways not to worry as I'm now just concentrating on taking my daily driver.

unfortunately it seems there are a lot of people with money on this site who are more than willing to talk down to those with smaller earnings, who wish to have fun on a budget,my £345 budget would easily get me and one other to the ring for 4 days and have a bloody good time,if youre too blinkered and pampered to see that then thats your problem, enjoy burning your cash. but don talk down to me without knowing what i spent. you werent there, you didnt pay for the things i paid for and youre clutching at straws with comments about pizzas and sandwiches. i never thought id see an attack from the likes of yourself stu,it has completely changed my opinion of you,for the worse.

What attack? I dont see any attack on this post, merely someone saying they dont believe you can take a car to the ring, for 10 days, eat and get pissed every single night, and come back to your house on only £300. And i still dont as your explanations have not convinced me, sorry if your unhappy with that and dont like being challenged, but that is not my fault, i would rather argue teh toss than have people believe they can come on this trip with a car and £300 and not expect to run into problems which we will then have to sort out, thus spoiling our enjoyment too..

I would STRONGLY advise anybody against attempting it on less than £1k unless they are camping at which point I'd still say £800. That's as a driver of course. I learnt a lot last Easter

Well I took my own car as I've said in October - I had a passenger & EXCLUDING the cost of buying the car & fixing it up ready - whilst I was over there I spent approximately £600 which included the ferry return from Hull to Zeebrugge. We also went to Belgium first for two days before driving over to Nurburg. We went through about 4.5 tanks of fuel for our 1084 miles - ate & drank well each night, covered approx 12 laps of the ring - each lap consuming 1.5gallons of fuel - roughly 9mpg

Just a word of warning tho if you go with a larger group - you end up spending more money of a night time with rounds & such like - thats just the way it goes!!!!

Fuel for 1400 miles @ 20mpg: £350

Hotel at Folkestone on way out: £50

Hotel at Nurburgring for 3 nights: £120

20 laps of ring: £260

Fuel for 20 laps @ 10mpg: £140

5 days food for and beer 2 (£40 per day): £200

Total: £1170

Additional expenses:
Greencard for insurance policy: £30
Extra insurance for Nicole on car: £30
Travel insurance: £60
European breakdown cover: £65
Eurotunnel return ticket: £130
Total Outlay: £1485.00

How hard is it to shake off a fookin reputation eh? I hardly bloody say a thing about myself on here now! And still people think this!

You've just had your own double episode of the Bill & Judge John Deed in regards to your speeding xtravaganza - now your going to the Ring ? Hope you don't star in an episode of Casualty too come Easter

And as far as costs are i've never spent more than 500quid over the 5days although i don't do many laps either but i don't skimp on anything

That was driving related though! Not personal life related stuff lol.

You just wait til I'm larging it round the ring matey. Can't wait

They are right next to teh Eurotunnel les and thats for 2 people of course. In fact, i think it was £45. Convenience rules when you had a 7hr drive to get there and you hadnt a clue where you were going, it was virtually on a motorway bridge.

If I can do it £1000 all In I'll be happy.

Fuel shouldn't be so bad with it being a 1.6. And hopefully I can get a passenger to half some costs..

Anyone want a space?
