Default Who is buying a 'Ring car then for the 07 trip?

Just wondering who is buying a car specifically for the ring trip next year. I'm actually considering spending about £500 on something. Depends what the insurers would fookin want to have a second car though

I was thinking along the lines of an old e30 or e34. Something along the lines of a 325, 530 etc.

But would a £500 car get there and back?!

It would be a bit of a stretch to do but I'd be gutted if I binned my everyday car and I'd be in a fix if I did.

What are people's thoughts?

Just say at home - u can't afford to go Or should i clarify - you have a certain debt problem, your prone to a bit of a gamble sometimes, you have recently been banned so any insurance company will load you straightaway with 1 car never mind 2 - up to you innit but it seems a stupid idea.

I wouldnt want to do it in a 500 quid banger unless i had a lot of car knowledge and a really good set of tools personally.

Prone to a bit of a gamble? Mate I haven't gambled in 11 months

I do have debt yes but now it's all consolidated and I pay out about £160 a month.

Can't see the problem tbh

That's what i was going to say

Doesn't sound like a good idea mate A ring trip can get rather costly as driver and is it really worth it in a cheap shitter?
From your own postings it doesnt sound like you can afford it

What? I haven't posted anything up about my personal situations since before the last Easter ring trip. I've been through all sorts of ups and downs mate but I learnt not to talk about any of it on here anymore.

All i wanted was abit of advice on whether a cheapo ring car was a good or bad idea as I know I make bad decisions when I don't listen to people. That's all.

Insurance, paying for fuel and tickets and a decent service on the motor etc is probably going to set you back best part of a couple of grand all in.

Seems a bit pointless on some 500 quid shitter.

I bought myself a car mainly for the ring as I didnt want to take the cab, bought an M5, I was going to skimp and buy a shitter but I couldnt handle being in a piece of shit all that way, and i'm no master mechanic so it would have been pointless!

I'd listen to the other guys mate, Stu's post detailed it out pretty well at how much its going to cost and that didnt include the purchase of a vechile.

I wouldnt bother risking my life at the ring in some old shit box....

You'd have no idea on the condidtion of the car unless you went over it and replaced everything thats worn out. Then it wont be a 500 quid car.

Just take yours and becareful!

I know everyone's saying dont do it.....but when I went to the ring in October I went in a car that I'd bought 6 weeks previous - it cost me £160 off fleabay to buy - then I put a new set of stoppers on it, new suspension leg, did the headgasket, changed the turbo, fabricated a 3" stainless system on it - MOT'd, taxed & insured it then proceeded to do 1085miles in it round Belgium & Germany with only a split water hose to content with...oh & a slight off but that was hardly the cars fault!!!

Ok it does help that I know 21Turbos inside out but well....I was still impressed!!!

AWESOME!!!

Not on such a low budget but me and mongo did similar with the beemr last year.

Thats the thing though, Jay doesnt have the skills or tools to actually get a cheap car and turn it into something suitable.

Just a thought - instead of spending £500 on a car that may or may not be up to hard driving, why not

a. cadge a lift with someone and help out their petrol costs
then
b. when you get there hire the E36 Compact or E36 325 from that German place - you get the thrill of driving the Ring plus you can get tuition as well. Don't have to worry so much about the car breaking then?

But you have to pay a deposit thats more than you could buy a car for, so if you cant afford to spare the cost of a car, you cant afford to risk losing the deposit if you have an accident.

Mind you, if he has an off into the barriers that'll probably cost him more than the car anyway ..................

The Ring trip is NOT a cheap one.

I worked it out and the cost is mega i would say on the wrong side of 1k nd thats without buying a car to just do it in.

I would love to do the trip, but honestly cant see me doing it for some time

Well not properly anyway

If you buy a car you view as disposable then you'll drive it like it's disposable

Is the 'ring the best place to do that?

rhys,i WENT to the ring earlier in the year it can be MEGA cheap!ill break it down for you
RETURN boat dover to dunkirk £60 per car (so get a passenger!) that takes 2 hrs and is 45 mins closer to the ring
then its 256 miles to the ring,so 512 return,so call that 60 quid TOPS in a 205gti
then the 12 laps of the ring for 100
plus 50 quid to SPANK the car round on fuel
then camping is 35 quid for 4 nights
theres a lidl that has bbqs and booze aplenty down the road,no more than 10 quid a night for everything! so 4 nights thats 40 quid
thats 345 quid,for TWO people!
or bon is down the road with 1* hotels, not much more expense!
fuck paying another 1700 quid to stay in a hotel!
