Default XP problem, Help!

Evening guys,

Was wondering if anyone could help with this little problem I have on a laptop.

Essentially someone turned it off, whilst it was installing windows updates (during shutdown - the one that says, iinstalling windows updates, donot switch your pc off ).

Anyway, now, it doesnt boot, get the XP splash screen come up, it'll stay loading for a few seconds then the machine just reboots.

If I hold F8 and select start in safemode during boot, safemode does the same.

Is there anyway I can use a bootable cd to run a system restore? I don't want to format it with XP again as it'll lose a load of work, and will probably screw up the warrenty (its only a few weeks old!)

Cheers

boot from XP cd, then choose repair. Won't touch any user files.

Cheers Rick...

Does it matter if the installation is XP Home and my CD is Pro?

No, it shouldn't. You will need the serial of the copy you are installing.

If I had the same problem at work on a laptop I would rebuld it.

if some files were needed of it I would use ERD commander and take them off
