Default Freeview box.. and also what other options?

Right guys, I really need your help here.

I'm looking to get a freeview box, but can only use an internal ariel, whats a fairly decent one I can get that will do the job?

Also, whats the deal with freeview now, cos some have to have cards or something don't they?

What other alturnatives of a 1 off payment are there? Cos Men & Motors left freeview for some other 1 off payment box thing IIRC?

Cheers for any help, I need lots

the carded ones are free view but you can add a subscription top up tv ( I think its called still? )

I have / had 5 diff FV boxes the best being a happauge 1100 something, can be had for between 20 - 40 pounds off ebay, no card input tho,

you can add a battery powered inline airial amp, about 10 from maplin, I've had great results off small crappy indoor antenna, really depends on where you live and signal!

I second that.It depends entirely where you live. The digital signal cannot be received everywhere yet. There is a web site where you can check if your area can receive digital.Either that or go into currys, comet or dixons and tell them you are thinking of buying a freeview box and they will take your postcode and tell you if it will work or not. I get digital but had a problem with it freezing. It turned out that the coax cable wasnt the shielded type. You will need an up to date coax that is compatable with digital and like has been mentioned a signal booster.

It's good. The channels aren't amazing, but you still have more choice than you would have without one.

Not strictly true.Yeah it has kids stuff on it but when you are used to sky (which I have at home)its better than having the normal 5 crap channels.I have to live in a static caravan in the week (work away from home) and I appreciate itv2,3,4,bbc 3 and 4,history channel to name a few. When you consider it costs fook all its better to have than not.I wouldnt stay in if I had to watch the drivel on bbc1 and itv1.

Cool

I'm not bothered about getting a card to 'top up' as I like the idea of the 1 off payment staying a 1 off payment

E4 if you're not a pensioner, Film4 for movies, More 4 for deal or no deal and some other interesting stuff. BBC3 for Two Pints etc as mentioned above, ITV2, Sky 3 has road wars on it and some other stuff, 2 music channels, Digital Radio, Sky Sports News, Sky News, BBC News etc, and stuff that others like such as history etc.

How can you tell me that's not worth a one off £30 payment?
