I looked at one and 100% it has been made to have a 4wd system fitted,
The question is whether they will do it.

Can't be arsed reading all those replies - heres my 2p's worth.

All about economics at the end of the day. Ford US has always made massive profits, whereas Ford UK/EU has hardly ever. Ford US bails for UK out for its losses alot of the time. Performance cars don't sell in thier numbers compared to middle of the range cars - its all about making the most money for Ford UK. Since Ford US is much more successful they have the money to spend on "performance" projects/models.

i have a suspicion that the new freelander shares the same platform as the new shape focus? could be why it looks like it may have 4x4?

anyone got any pictures?

One is a car and one is an off roader!! I seriously doubt that a road based platform will share one with an off roader!!! The Focus shares a platform with a Volvo where as the Mondeo shares one with the X type (which also looks 4x4 ready but you won't see a 4x4 in the current model).
