What gives the Evos and some of the other jap cars that ripping sound from the exhaust when they bring it on boost? Anyone know?

Can't say I've ever noticed it. Could it be an external wastegate you've heard?

One of my mates has a Evo 8 FQ330 and another one has a GT4 and they both sound the same, sounds really well.

screamer pipes make that noise on a lot of cars, id expect you mean that.

and ported shroud inlets make the spooling noise crazy loud.

or SOMETIMES when they have them gay bungs fitted in the tailpipes to reduce noise it makes a real high pitches wooshing noise when flat out.
