Default Car logbooks...applying for them etc help

Right, what happens if i buy a car with no log book as its not available?

I know i apply, but can the dvla not give you one for some reason?

When you apply for one the DVLA will issue a letter to the current owner of the car telling them that someone has applied for the V5.....

They have 14 days to tell the DVLA that they ARE NOT selling it, otherwise the DVLA will issue you the V5.

It is to stop people applying for log books from other cars

Sorry Lee i never read it properly
But my mate done this once with a Mk1 Transit been sitting for years by some garages near him .No one knew who owned it and DVLA sent him the log book
Must be like TIFF says

Don't pay the Ł19 for a replacement log book either

Just write a snotty letter informing them you're the new registered keeper and, as a organisation that admits is database is inaccurate and is supposedly working to resolve those inaccuracies, charging motorists to help them achieve their aim is hardly conducive to that goal.

Throw in a sarcastic comment about not wanting to miss out on any speeding fines or not being able to pay road tax and they'll send you a log book for free

lol i know where ya coming from dave. But its done over and over gain isnt it...series ones.. Roll on carb power... I just hope i dont go out to the garage one day and just have to sweep it out into a dustpan

It deffo worked for me

Charging for logbooks is a bit of a fookin' cheek when you consider that a survey a couple of years ago revealed only 68% of the vehicles on their records were 100% accurate

I'm in the same process as when I bought a van few months back filled in my details with the owner and NO log book but a letter addressed to me asking for Ł19 and to fill in MY details on the v5 they supplied WITH AN ENVELOPE I phoned them up and asked IF YOU DIDN'T RECEIVE THE OLD LOG BOOK FROM PREVIOUS OWNER HOW DID THEY GET MY DETAILS/ADDRESS I'm still waiting for it though WILL be funny come end of the month when tax is due!

14 days not very long time to reply back....find out whos on a cruise with a nice car and apply
