Default Lotus esprit based on a pinto lump?

Is that true?

I always thought they were vuaxhall based for some reason, but someone on the nitrous forum i used was asking if they were pinto based, as he is after a flywheel for one?

Am i right in assuming the 2.2 turbo esprits are based on pintos, and therefore use pinto type flywheels?

i think the 2.2 is the Lotus 912 engine, which was based on a vauxhall block

oops maybe wrong then

"It is a common misconception that the Lotus 900 series engines were modified Vauxhall engines. The 900 series was designed by Lotus as their first self developed engine, and due to superficial similarities in dimensions Vauxhall 4 cylinder iron blocks were used as testbeds. The initial 2.0 litre engine was first used in the Lotus type 62 Europa racecar, and indeed used a Vauxhall iron block, termed the Lotus-Vauxhall engine. The engine was modified into the type 911, which was fully designed by Lotus, used in the winning Lotus Talbot Sunbeam rally and production cars. The engine was introduced in production form as the type 907 in the 1972 Jensen-Healey, and went on to power Lotuses into the late 1990s. It is regarded as the first DOHC production engine made"

Apparently they went back to vuaxhall derived lumps later on though, after GM bought them out.
