Default Diesel Turbo Tunning Or Petrol Turbo Tunning

Ok there are alot of manufactorers now going for TDI sport models like the st mondeo tdci and the golf gt-tdi etc etc and now its seems subaru imprezza will be making a TDI still with rally looks.
So my question what is actually better in terms of performance and what can be tunned better im not getting one lol or even care about there mpg, just trying to see what the big deal with TDI's are as i see it there good for low down torque but run out of puff way to early so i think the pertol turbo is far more superior

i have chosen two pretty much identical model cars one a MKIV GOlf 1.8 petrol Turbo the other mkIV golf 1.9 TDI

So the
MKIV golf 1.8T standard 150BHP
MKIV golf 1.9TDI standard 150bhp

With a big boys toy revo remap (only remap no ther modifications)
MKIV golf 1.8T remap 212BHP (£499)
MKIV golf 1.9TDI remap 190BHP (£499)

i still think the petrol turbo would be better of and would bennefit far more with exhaust and filter although the torque of the diesel would give it a good start but would still eventually be caught and beaten by the petrol wat do u all think
