Such a shame as they are such awesome looking cars
Definately one for my dream garage-where it would never break down or go wrong

From: My own little world Drives: badly
My mate runs a garage, one of his customers has a Lotus Carlton.
My god - does it cost him some money!!!
It spends more time in the garage than at home.
Head gaskets, radiators, oil coolers, brakes- all specialist - all made to order, for a fortune.
Still an awesome car!
One day he had my cossie, an M3 and the Carlton on his forecourt - looked the tits!

I heard you can't get headgaskets or bolts, ecu's (loads of people kill the ecu when they try and chip it) and a set of discs and pads is £2k
I'd love one, but I'd never be able to afford to run it. I do fancy a GSI24v as an alternative though

My uncle own a minter of one. Bllody awesome cars, not as unrealiable people seem to think, although parts are dam expensive.
He was quoted £600 for a pair of discs awhile back.
Head bolts arent made in this country anymore and replacements are ordered from germany.
Clutches can be funny too but generally my uncles has been ok.
I WILL buy one day, i remmeber when we first went out in it, 5 up, changed up from 3rd at around 125
Very long gearing in them, 6th is good for 44mph per 1000rpm, which means at 4000 your doing about 180

Its like Porsche 959 Tyres... buy them from Porsche and they are about £3k I think
OR £600 direct from the maunfacturer as I remember
I like Lotus Carltons

They're not particularly quick unless you have LOTS of runway. AT Brunters on the first top speed shoot-out I ever went to, one fitted with bleed valves to up the boost did 161mph. My Sapphire (with 385bhp on four 803s and a T34/0.48a/r), did 172mph on the same day .
They would only get even NEAR their claimed top speed in fifth, and sixth is just an overdrive and it cannot pull the speeds claimed above in this gear . Fastest one was ever timed at was mid 170s - needed about 50 miles to get there though .
I actually chased one home on Tuesday night (B16 VLC) on the A47 Norwich bypass. Unfortunately I was in the Freelander, so everytime the traffic cleared, he just fucked off into the distance for me to reel him in again when he caught the traffic . Looked mint as well - obviously out for a joy ride, as he double back up the bypass at the end of it .

I can remember Autocar getting Richard Noble to try and test the top speed in the UK. He got up to about 160ish but I think they had to use Nardo to get over a true 170?
There was a big house I used to drive past down Evesham way that had 2 parked on the driveway - always used to slow down for a good stare..
They've certainly got road presence - there's one round this way and when it suddenly looms up behind you looks impressive. If I win the lottery I shall buy one
Didn't Harvey have one or two?

He has had three. His ex-wife stacked the first one, he sold the second and I organised purchase of the third from a guy in Gt Yarmouth, which a year later he sold for more than he paid for it .

Very nice, a car that made cossie owners quake in their boots back in the day, near the 50k mark when they came out, back then that was a fuck of a lot of money, i remember trying to think of ways of coming up with 25k to by a 4x4 saff when i was 19 so there was no way i could ever bust/get the Lotus Carlton,
I have heard that they are not a very nice drive though??
