Default GEAR LEVER gaiter problem.....

simple question

how the fuck does a cosworth 4*4 gearlever knob come off ...ive pushed and pulled ...

turned clockwise & anti clockwise but to no avail

removed the top bit thought there might have been a grub screw underneath..

OH NO THERES NOT

want to fit a new gaiter but the hole is to small for it to fit over the gear knob

and as ive just paid £22 for it dont really want to have to cut the new one..to slide it over .....

HELP PLEASE ....

My knob just comes off when I pull it

No grub screws or anything - just a tight plastic collar thing that sits around and in your gear stick shaft.

DK_SAFFY

the cable tie is not closed yet ...its the stitching at the top of the gaiter thats the problem...but 4/10 for the idea..

seems a pity to slice open a brand new one ..

might try the hard pull aproach ..knowing my luck the whole lever will come out in me hand

pull it harder, thats the right way & when you put the new cover on, make sure its inside out, upside down, so the cable tie goes on the inside, then pull it over itself

Deffo pulls off M8.

Open the sun roof and stand with a leg either side of the tunnel and get a straight pull up on it. That should do the trick

if you have twisted it then its fooked.

theres a D shaped plug inside the knob and you need to pull it off without twisting it.

as you have,it will be loose when pushed back on.

a new gear knob is about £15 from Fords.

btw, watch out you don't pull the full fitting off the stick.

your electric window switches are the wrong way round.

the twist and pull is what i have done, but it don't go back on as snugly as it was as said above i've prbably broekn something inside, a nice dab of silicon under there does the trick though.

where was the gaiter from and is it a straight swap?

buy a knew nob, cut the old one off
but because it's a rubbery plastic, the crumbs go everywhere

they do just clip into place, but when you remove th eold one or buy the new one you'll see exactly what we are on abou as in fixing locations

remember that when you are fitting the new gaiter, put it on upside down over the top and secure the cable tie before folding it over
that way it won't show
