MSN Messenger problems? **Updated!!!!**
Its OK, but they did send a message last week saying it would be a bit hit and miss while they do some upgrades through till mid november.
Only read it by mistake, most MS mail tends to get deleted straight away.

No problems here today but my my mate had a virus in MSN on Wednesday.
After I had signed in, within about 30 seconds it popped a window up with a "here is a picture of you" and a link. The link while not a common URL wasnt completely dodgy. It had 550 in the link from memory. After clicking it threw a Open or Cancel window up which was when I noticed the extension of the file was a .exe
One guy did save it who didnt know a great deal about PC's and it has caused him major grief. Just something to be aware of.
The guy who originally had it, had left his laptop at work signed in for the night after going from work with a few mates.

I reckon its more likely that MSN has gone into overload after our little 'chat' last night.

All you guys that cant sign in, have you tried going tools>options>connection and clicking on troubleshot and see what it says? (thats assuming you havent been able to get on for ages, not just half hour because sometimes microsoft need to shut the service down for updates and what not)

I run the troubleshooter and it says everything is fine.
It just does the little rotating icon as if it is signing in. It doesn't even 'fail' as such, it just stays 'signing in' forever more.
I have tried downloading a 'new' installer pack and installing that. Even going into the registry and removing stuff that way, no difference!
HELP!
If I remove Windows Live, is there still another version available?

Christian and Beccy yeah both are available, old and new

Down the right hand side in blue text, newest version at the top, oldest at the bottom
Mines the 8.0.0812 version and its never had probs signing in really so try that if you havent got it, if that dont work dont try anything older than 7.0, but to be honest i cant see a different version making a difference but it wont hurt to try.
Another thing, can you try your id on a friends msn to see if its working ok or maybe give your password to someone so they can try it? at least you can eliminate your pc and setup if theres dont work either

Here's how it has looked for the last 2 days.....

The ONLY thing that has changed is this Windows update that I did (one of the ones that it does automatically and requires a restart).
I will try and log in on someone elses machine, although I am fairly sure it will work. I do think this is a software problem, I just don't know how to overcome it.
Is there a way that I can TOTALLY remove it and all associated traces, then start again? I mean going further than 'Add/Remove Programs'.

and the reason im still on the version i said above is because i know my emotes dont work on the newer beta version.Glad you got on but answers on a postcard as to what exactly the problem was
but looking at your screenshots id say you were right and it was probably a software issue
Also i know it doesnt matter anymore but if you want to get rid off all traces of something the only way is using add/remove and then going into c:drive yourself and looking to see if the messenger is still there or not and then manually delete it, then use a registry cleaner like ccleaner(which you can get off that site you got messenger from)
