Default Liable and forums

Hi guys,

I might need some advice (for a friend!).

In terms of liable and internet forums where do you stand?

For example, if you slated a company calling them “lieing useless tossers!” and then made a mistake saying they “don’t even build their own engines” when the in-fact did – where would you stand?

Also is there a time limit on this? Say if it happened over two years ago and they only just decided to do something about it does that effect anything?

Thanks peeps!

Alex

Real minefield.

Depends on where its hosted and how the disclaimer for the site is worded, and wether or not the mods knew about it and ignored it etc.

There is NO definitive answer to your question without a lot more detail.

at that time you beleived in all honsety they did not then don't fret it ..

or go back to the thread and post an apology stating you have now found they do build their own stuff but your own personal feelings still stand

If anything is posted that is detrimental to a company which could have an adverse affect on the company ie. losing business/customers.... yes, then there could be a case as it is deemed as libellous. But of course it has to be proved that the company lost business because of it.

Would have to be proven that the person that posted is infact the same person as the username. i.e could be Dan, Tony, Benn, damo etc posting under my username.
