Some love em and some hate em.Scotty broke a brand new one on the start line of the handling course of TOTB this year and i helped him push the car away. Also the company has not got a good reputation on dealing with people.Don't really know how expensive they are for parts though.Still,if i was offered one at the right price i would have a go.

the r&d seems to be fine for track as Andrew has said,I used mine at national day with no problems!different story when it comes to launching with big power!!the ffd comes with a big price tag when you consider the tunnel needs modding, starter motor etc etc

Tim,
is the ffd a simple stick the box in or does it have a list of extras that are needed?
I was under the impression that a smaller starter motor needs to be used??

well steve scott had a new one fitted for ten of the best didnt he?it broke on the start line so i believe so it doesnt really matter if it breaks so soon how much it is does it?
a small saving for an unreliable, much more fragile unit,i cannnot see where your coming from at all to be honest.
the FFD was purpose built at great expense by ford, the mt75 "dog" boxes are just modified standard units that have very inherant problems and at the end of the day its finishes and reliability that counts,

as I have already said big launches are a no no!scotty was running 500+brake with 100 nos on top that day!Andrew has run the box all year in the ford championship with no problems so your saying he should have spent more money when not needed

ffd are the gearbox used in the slightly later and the latest group a escort cosworth
i say slightly later ones as im not sure in which year they started to use the ffd box ...
im sure tim or ian can tell us what year they did change
ffd box comes with a price tag but is very strong ! all year the old man has used his with 600bhp and giving it near on full throttle launches and has been spot on !
it even took the abouse i through at it missed gears "cough cough"
r+d are not the strongest box but i think its all about how "kind" you are to them ...
andy gallacher has used his all year with big bhp and its been perfect as far as im aware ! he has even launched his car alot and still not broken it !
also the problem with ffd is the price when the rebuild comes along
however less rebuilts and a bit more money might work out better
good luck with what you choose
