Go for it - just do it properly and make sure it doesn't look like a 'thrown together' job

There are some good rs200 replicas out there.

The best I've seen have had mid mounted cosworth YB engines and space frame chassis, carn't remember who makes these and I don't think they are cheap.

There are cheaper ones based on xr4x4's but I'm not sure who makes them.

Stay away from the Banham's though. They do them based on Austin Meastro

Think from memory your looking around 15k for the kit plus cossie running gear, looked into it a year or so ago. They can take 2wd or 4x4 running gear!!!

Tbh thou i wouldnt want 1 with a scooby engine in as it defeats the object of having a FORD rs200 but each to their own

RS Automotive were the company who produed the space frames, fibreglass replica.

My bro-on-law is in the process of building his one up! Couple of pics in current situation - ignore the colour, it is going white very soon! He's got a YB lump going in it which FMS have in their workshop at present!

It is the proper kit matey from RS Automotive. I'm not sure if they are producing the kits anymore. IMO its the best replica available. Gearbox wise Renault ones are most popular for them but he was provided with a Proker 911 5 speed box and adaptor plate!

i have looked over the net at rs automotive and when ever you click on a link to there site you get a parts shop, maybe they have bought the domain but they must still produce the kit because on uncle winnett's link the bloke said he will build them to your spec? thats all good but i want to build my own if anyone has a contact in any way i would be very greatful.

Got an email back of a bloke called Bob this morning. They currently don't do the mid engined version, but are going to be developing it over the winter. At the moment the engine's go up front And a turnkey version (think a fully built version) is 20k + VAT

RS Automotive are still about and still based in Shoeburyness. Paul Horner (one of the original partners) is still there but Gary Campbell (who ran their Leicester branch) has now retired I believe. That is the right phone number but don't rely on getting any calls returned as he is a nightmare for that! My bro-in-law has been waiting 2 months for the engine/box mounts still after being told its a 2 week turnaround!!

The Kara / RS Automotive kit is the best replica that was made IMO.
It is mid engined RWD., there are very slight differences to the appearance to comply with Ford copyrights at the time.
It is expensive but the kit was top notch.
They handle the road like a race car.
The problem is they don't make them anymore so unless you can find one that is still in bits you are not going to be able to build one.
The SPD 200 is exact in appearance but only front mounted engine at the moment and the only kit available now.
I think you would be best waiting for the mid engined version to be developed i'm sure it will be worth the wait.
Check out www.rs200replica.co.uk
As for people taking the piss! it dosen't happen usually .
Be prepared for a chat to total strangers every time you fill up with petrol.
Cheers Pete.

He has got pretty much everything. Full bodywork / interior / genuine rs200 dash, loom, chipped ecu, freshly built FMS engine, brand new (or never used!) Escort cossie alloys, basically all that it needs is a clutch and flywheel, mounts (which are on order), exhaust (which is also on order) and painting (unless you like the green!) and putting together.

Price wise I wouldn't have a clue. I think the Ł15k price tag on the original kit car excluded the engine / ancilleries as well!

Those pictures were taken about 6 months ago but I dont think much has changed!

He's owned it for a couple of years now gradually getting bits and pieces together. He's always dreamed of owning one so bit the bullet and bought one when it came up (after realising he couldn't afford a gen. one and realising rs auto ones are getting rarer by the day).

I was speaking to Paul at RS Automotive a couple of months back and he reckons there are only about 50 / 60 of them on the road now throughout the world!

Default RS200 reps

Garry Campbell (leicester branch) can be contacted on 01530 510 933, trading as GMC.
I've just got my evo200 chassis back after Garry put a new floor in it for me. Time to feeze my balls off over the winter putting it back together!!!
