Default Need advice on Head

My head went it yesterday to be skimmed and its beyond repair, so I need to consider my options? some advice, do I go 2nd hand and risk getting a head that wont last long, a recon head or a modified head?

If anyone could give me some rough prices and advice on what to go for and where to get it I would be very grateful

Do you mean a cossie head?

What exactly is wrong with it?

Unless its absolutely fooked (read as you've run the engine with no water in and the aluminimum has sunk) then I can repair most heads, including those which have dropped valves/seats etc.

I was given the minium tolerance for the head i think 138.63mm, the head is 1 thou off this figure and is warped at the front by 9 thou, when it on the car oil comes out

The fact the head is on its limit is no problem as I can rectify this to make the head usable again. (Not going into details on this site)

Why is it warped? Have you overheated the head?

No the car obviously had problems before I bought it, the fans were wired to run constantly the rad was knackered and it was leaking oil, sorted the rad etc, and changed the head gasket as it was blowing into the water jacket and found that its bent so I imagine that it has got hot at some point

yep, like karl says, you can have the valve seats removed, rebated a bit more and fittd backin to give you another couple of skims worth but u need to remember to remove the same amount u rebate the seats off the stem of the valve - some cars are more open to this idea, buthe cossie valves have the problem that the collets are very near the end of the stem, thus limmiting the amount of grinding off that can be done.

If I was to go this route am I not going to be raising the compression? which surley is not best for reliability? Or would this amount not affect it, if it came down to it I would prefer to spend a bit more ££ and get something reliable. Obviously not discounting any suggestions if the method you mention is proven then I would have no problems with it
