Default Any doctors in the house?

I have been having lower chest pains for the past weeks mainly around the lower rib area.

Today my doctor told me i have bornholms disease

After doing some research on it many people still appear to be suffering after many years of treatment, it feels like my ribs are broken, extremely painful to breath, the doc has given me ibuprofen but that seems to just ease the pain for a little while until the drugs wear off.

Am I in for a long spell of pain or is there more can be done with this? its gonna affect my job which a love to death and don't want to loose!

stick it into google and it comes up with a whole list of stuff about it

this one seems to be why most docrots prescribe pain killers for it

Bornholms Disease
Otherwise known as Pleurodynia Epidemic Myalgia or the “Devil’s Grip”. This uncommon condition is caused by a virus affecting the intercostal muscles of the chest wall. It usually presents with a severe immobilising chest pain that is worse on moving and breathing and can give rise to diagnostic uncertainty if mistaken for heart or lung pains. As well as chest pain it can cause abdominal pain, fever, sore throat and headaches. It is more common in men and peaks around the summer or early autumn.

The condition usually resolves within a week and seldom more than a month and treatment is with anti-inflammatory pain killers.

Historical Footnote: This condition was first described by a Danish GP, Dr E Sylvest on the Island of Bornholm. The first published case in this country was following a small epidemic in Yorkshire reported by GP Dr Will Pickles in 1933 who went on to be the first President of the Royal College of General Practitioners in 1953.

Why didn't you ask your Doctor while you were there, he'd be the one more qualified to answer?

Why would you need a doctor when half of PF is experts at everything.

Sorry to hear about the pain. Ive had lockups in my back several times that blocked the ribs from moving/expanding when breathing so I can understand how painful it must be when the lungs cant expand enough.

My doc is useless, hence me looking on Google

Most people are still suffering from bornholms disease many years after they were first diagnosed with it, i hope this isn't my case! maybe i can claim disability allowance and get a new Focus ST

Oh and any donations would be great at the moment
