Mine had a fair bit of money spent on it, mostly performance and handling related, and it went like a gokart.

It handled incredibly, but was a touch noisy for normal driving (due to the fact comforts included two bucket seats, a steering wheel, gear lever and pedals, along with a roll cage)

There were no carpets, no sound proofing.

Was only a 1275cc, and if you have a few pennies to play with, get yourself a nice 1380 turbo, that'll shift.

Appologies if i've repeated anything thats already been mentioned, i'm in work and haven't read the entire thread.

My opinion?

Definately worth owning one for a while, but probably not best over winter.

Clarkson agrees, he claims its a car you MUST drive before you die.

But make it a good'un

Coincidentily, i know of a Yamaha R1 bike engined mini thats for sale?

I had 3 when I was growing up.. hmmm growing up would suggest I am now a grown up

Basically they're slow and uncomfortable with crap brakes and rot galore.. unless you spend lots of money..

In which case they're just a bit better.

But they're cool and funky- If you're gonna get one.. get a decent colour, later 1.3injection jobbie with the sports pack kit on.. That'll be acceptable.

I had 3 998's 2 with bucket seats- which are a must if you ask me... and 1 with sports pack arches and wheels...

Was really cool and fun to drive around.... just turn the corners and hang on...

Now though... no thanks. I want somet that at least accelerates a little bit.

Would love one, theres a couple round my way which are quite nice, one like radders with flared arches, deep dish mini lights etc and a clubman done the same.

But unfortunatly being a big fucker I cant fit in them

People using size as an excuse... shouldn't.. only the tallest of tall people would struggle.

Just do as i did and make your own seat brackets, moving the seat further back and lower.

Only my russion friend whos about 6ft 7ish couldn't have driven it.. he could fit in it, but only 1st and 2nd gear would have been possible for him

Have owned a Supercharged Cooper S & believe me it felt very fast in 1968.
sub 8secs to 60 at a time when your average car was an Austin 1100 was a lot of fun. I loved them & very few cars since could win championships on the track & International rallies. The little Minis beating the big Jags on the track was a great sight. .
The new thing is joke compared to the orginal as a performance tool, but its rather cute & different for posers I suppose.

Agree Rod i dont like the new ones so much. The old one is and will always be a iconic car...even if totally un practical etc....but like i say, always wanted one when a kid, and still often think about buying one...My other downside is being a laughing stock in one
