Default Mk2 Mondeo, what to look out for?

Going to look at a 1.8 Zetec on a W reg this Saturday, Done 65,000 miles with full history.

Is there anything i should be cautious of when i go to look at it and any common problems with them?

As Alex says, front arms and especially the heater switch are common, both easy fixes.

Rear droplinks go and sticky rear doorhandles for some strange reason, think the return spring looses its tension with time.

Great cars though, drive and handle well for what they are. Im on my 2nd TD mondy now

Funny you should mention that. My heater switch on my mondy has just stopped working. Doh. What actually breaks/needs replacing?

on the 2000 model (my wifes is a 2000 2.0 zetec) the front cv joints were from a different manufacturer and are shite 2 have failed on ours, front springs snap, front and rear tie bars and thats about it the heater prob just working on max is the resister on the fan housing in the pass side footwell, a repair kit is available from ford although I idn't now this was a prob on the later cars just mk1's.

i wouldnt be nervous andy, very good cars if they have been looked after mate, a good freind of mine has a 1.8 zetec on a w reg, he's had no probs in 2 years apart from the usual things, but as stated, there a few things that do go. steve (the youth) has stated pretty much every thing to look out for, and trust me, he knows his mondeo's. but the 2 major things are bottom arms, mondeo's do eat bottom arms, and the heater problems. mine is a mk1, but they are very similar to the mk2, and ive replaced both bottom arms on mine this year, but to be honest there not too expensive, i had both of mine done at ford, and it worked out about £70 each side, even cheaper if you do it yourself, about £25 -£30 each for the arms, and guess what, my heaters only work on full.
