Induction kits, why do you need them?
Am I right in thinking that you fit a type of induction kit to a modified car to help it breath better
or is a standard air box ok?
If standard is ok why do so many people have induction kits?
And if induction kits are needed for modified cars how are some people using standard air boxes for 500bhp cossies?
Cheers
Steve

Hope it’s not just for sound

hi ste, the evo,s up and running mate
thanks for your hard work
im just trying to sort the high idle , when its warm its idling at 1.5
iv took th ebattery off like the MLR told me as this resets the ecu then you hold it at 2000rpm for 10, 15, mins but still the same,
andy

so with all my mods what your trying to tell me is that I dont have a 500bhp N/A mk6 escort
The Cosworth airbox was designed to suit power increases for homologation purposes, so is very good up to a it's air flow limit. Beyond this (around 500bhp) it becomes restrictive.
Modern cars have different constraints (emmission compliancy / noise compliancy / safety compliancy (dictating the amount of room available) / cost compliancy (using generic items from the parts bin to keep costs down), so these systems can be compromised and very restrictive from the factory (the Focus RS / ST are a prime examples).

The trick to any form of tuning is to sort out the area of most restriction first. So only when your standard filter and box are prooved to be the biggest restriction should you look at changing them.
The biggest form of restriction on most cars is the standard ECU, lose that and add an Emerald (etc) and you can free up a a fair bit of power these days.
