anyone KNOW the rules about side exit exhaust

been told many conflicting arguments for this,....
from mot tester,....police.....etc....

It used to have to be 12 inches {300mm} to the rear of any opening into the passenger compartment. (that was before hatchbacks came along)
So a 2 door could have side exits, but not a 4 door as there wasn't enough room to fit them in.
If the same rule still applies No hatchback would be able to have side exit exhausts, but booted cars would.
Someone else raised this recently, I searched but haven't found the truth yet, although it is out there.

Its all a load of old bollocks anyhow, plenty of production motors go against these so called rules, esp vans and shit.
Mine comes out under the passenger door facing the pavement BTW.
Most people dont know the rules, even MOT testers etc, heard cops and allsorts claiming all side exits are illegal, etc etc

SVA is alot more strict in all ways other than crash saftey IMO!
