Must not protrude more than an inch from the side of the car. And it must be on the drivers side.

It used to have to be 12 inches {300mm} to the rear of any opening into the passenger compartment. (that was before hatchbacks came along)

So a 2 door could have side exits, but not a 4 door as there wasn't enough room to fit them in.

If the same rule still applies No hatchback would be able to have side exit exhausts, but booted cars would.
Someone else raised this recently, I searched but haven't found the truth yet, although it is out there.

SVA test looks at noise and bend radi only.

Position is OK on either side (V8's have both) and heat is NOT a concern

alot of road cars from new would fail an SVA
Are you seriously suggesting it's easier to get a vehicle type approved than SVA'ed?

Its all a load of old bollocks anyhow, plenty of production motors go against these so called rules, esp vans and shit.

Mine comes out under the passenger door facing the pavement BTW.

Most people dont know the rules, even MOT testers etc, heard cops and allsorts claiming all side exits are illegal, etc etc

Didnt say anything about it being easier did I?

SVA is alot more strict in all ways other than crash saftey IMO!
