Makes good sense rather than trying to hang in as he gets older and cant compete to the same level anymore.
He's had a stunning career and there really isnt much else he could achieve anyway as he has done it all so many times.
Would be good to see him win in his last year though

Glad to see the back of the cheating bastard
Funny how he announces his retirement and the same weekend they fix it so Alonso has a penalty and bring him right back into the champoinship race
We has won a lot but he wont be remembered with affection and reverance like Senna, Mansell, Clark etc

I am not a massive fan of MSC. But crucially I cant knock any of his achievements. No other driver could of done what he (and Ross, Jean, Rory) have done at Ferrari. They turned them around, and made them successful. Not jsut for a year of 2 but Ferrari have challenged for EVERY title since 1997. McLaren,Williams and Renault simply havent managed that.
I tend to side with Murray Walker a little when describing Michael. He's supposed to be a very nice bloke in person. Just that when hes in a racing situation he changes. As we know his conduct in the car is sometimes a little wrong. The difference is that when I do something stupid in my car, very few people see it as opposed to Millions around the world.
The other aspect is that hes become VERY rich from driving. Probably somewhere in the region of $500M over the 15 years or so. And that makes you a target or peoples jealousy or mistrust. The political wranglings I would guess are not his doing. More di Montezemelo or Todt. The FIA also make a hash of decisions which again reflect badly on Ferrari instead of the FIA. Todays Massa blocking incident was a prime example. FIA should of said bog off. But they didnt which opens the whole process to controversy.
Ultimately his record of 7 (probably 8) World titles will stand for 20 or more years. And thats a mark of the mans abilities in a race car. It also means that whoever wins next year will always be remembered as the guy who won it when MSC had retired..

He got the Arrows in to the lead at the A1 ring
He won Jordans First race.
One of the few to regularly beat Schumacher when they both had good cars.

Schuey has been a Inspiration, I dont think there will be another like him,
If you ask me he is from the Old Skool days of Arton Senna and Nigel
Mansell, new drivers are a bit girly.....
Mikka was a good driver, but gave it all in, Felipe Massa is good and i reckon
will do a great job at Ferrari...
His aggressive and somewhat dodgy driving style will be missed
DC and Jacques should bow out if you ask me..

Anyone that slates Schumacher clearly has no understanding of what it takes to be the best or indeed what a world class driver looks like. Love him or loathe him he is the most complete driver in F1. He's not my No1, but is and always will be in the top 5 or even 3 greatest ever. His record speaks for itself and yes he made mistakes, but so did Senna, Prost, etc but they were excepted and seen as a joke, remember Senna taking out Prost deliberately? The difference was he took out Hill( but was never repromanded for it, as all he did was take the racing line whilst in front and that isn't against the rules, and TBH Hill was rash to dive in) who was never a great champion or would be in anyones top 10 IMO. He is a genius as far as I'm concerned and like in any sport sometimes that means frustration takes over and bad decissions are made. He's laid down the gauntlet, but it wont be taken up for some time I'd imagine and the jury is well and truely out on Kimi Räikkönen. Fast, but not the complete package. I for one will miss Schuey and glad I saw him in the flesh at Silverstone.

Schuey - god like and 100% committed to winning.
Anyone who isnt 100% committed to winning wont be winning a world championship.
Bit of erratic driving and controversy never goes a miss. Anyone who slags him is a bad loser and needs to face facts.

Finally a Guy who has sense, and can let go of something that happened 12 years ago!?!? besides, like said people love Senna and he did it so that for one is very Hypocritical, plus it is that aggression and determination that will make you world champion and that is why DC never did it as he was to civilised for it

Can never see why people dont rate Schumacher as the best F1 driver ever ?
His record speaks for itslef
Senna was an oustanding driver but his circumstances appear to have gained him a sympathy vote as the best ever.
IMO Schumacher is the better complete driver and if they had ever gone toe to toe over a 5 year period i reckon schumacher would of come out on top.

McEnroe, Cantona, Rooney etc - I like that attitude in a top class sportsman, as it gives them an edge.....
I would have to mark Schumacher down as one of the top 5 racing drivers of all time. His performance in the wet at Spa in 97 for example is one of the great drives.....
