my car has been cutting out when its been left to idle and I've been trying to find out what's wrong then today I accidently left off the black box breather thing next to the cam belt coming from the rocker cover and now it idles perfectly!!

it used to cut out when I pulled off the oil filler cap but now as engine will only idle when the breather box thing is removed I can remove the cap and its fine! what does this mean??

is my engine blowing up or is something blocked??

Sounds like the breathers blocked [unless you've taken it off an put it the wrong way round, think they work on a valve?]

Ford still do them and they cost fuk all or upgrade to a baileys unit

 

well that's a relief! thought it was leading to something expensive! what kind of breather do I need? I take it I need something a bit different to the little K&N type one which bolts to rocker cover which you see in every motor spares shop??

 

Make sure that when the breathers off there's not plumes of smoke coming out? Could be an indication of bottom end problems...

If I remember correctly, that breathes back to the crank?

A Baileys [or whoever else, GRS make one I think] system replaces the whole breather system and is far better than the plastic valve thing.

But having said that, the direct replacement costs fuck all from Ford

In fact I had a spankers one I left as a spare my old RS that someone off here bought, they may still have it as a baileys unit was fitted... can't remember his username but Guzzler will know

I wouldn't say you NEED it!

But if you were going to upgrade from the standard item, then that's the one to get and you could probably get a better deal buying that directly from Dan@rapidford via here

Back again, just a thought, if I was to vent the rocker cover to the atmosphere, what pipes do I need to block off?

I take it the one which goes to the inlet manifold needs to be blocked or the car will stall. What about the big black plastic pipe? what do I do with that??
