personally to me ........ it wouldn't matter if it's been reshelled as long as the shell is brand new what real differance would it make

at the end of the day i say yes years ago it would have made a differance in price but because the cars are old i don't think it maytters so much because lets be honest how many 3dr/rs500 are left theres not that many

to a superbuffty/rsnut purerist then yes it would but to a person thats not botherd as long as it's done right i don't think it matters in this day and age

it's like the rs500's that raced do you think these were gen 500's ? no they wasn't they were just build ups same goes for the rally escort cos they are all build up form parts

thats my 2 pence worth anyway

I agree really, I want a spanking RS500 for keeps and that car looks imaculate in the pictures.

I am sure it will outlast most of the purists 500's as well if its been done properly.

Ive just always wanted a shiny black mint 500 in the garage to look at and this one might just fit the bill.

My guess is that it will have a high reserve though, and I think I would still be looking to pay a bit less due to the reshell.

Will be interesting to see what the morning crew make of it tomorow and see what comments they have. Also if anyone knows the car maybe some more insight.

just put mine on there for sale

similar scenario, but probably a lot cheaper than that one although it looks really nice that one.i recon its going to be £16000+

im sure someone will "accidentally" put a bid of £150000 on it then retract it saying entered wrong amount-just to see what reserve is.
people do it on my auctions all the time on there.

looks a lovely car though

Beats the shit out of most "original" ones in my eyes.

Most 3door and rs500 shells are showing their age now, new one is a great bonus.

As a car to keep, thats perfect IMHO, but be aware it may be hard to sell due to the reshell

i know that car

he say's this

as for the plate it had a cherrished number on it (323 POO) or it
you mean the chassis no the shell has had the number from the
original car placed over the floor of the new shell in the right place.

it has to be a ringer sorry lads this car used to belong to a local
guy it was rotton as fuck he got rid of it for an escort cossie when
it come out some time ago i was told then it had a re shell 3 time's
he hammerd fuck out of it and treated just like some boy racer in
a nova would, it was never clean and all the inner wings were splitting apart.

i would say its a ringer with what he say's about the plate.

it belong to a guy called griff he owns a massive place and is loaded
i was told this car was scrapped some time ago

I think the ad clearly says its been reshelled due to rot?

When you say you think its a ringer, which way around? You think the plate has been put onto a stolen car? Would a car that clean not be easily recognised a its so mint?

It certainly doesnt look like its treated like some boy racer in a Nova?

From what he has said, the re-sell has been done on another 'old' but restored shell.

If this was done recent it would be on a Q plate, however, from reading what the guy has said it was done 6 years ago, which would have been just before the DVLA changed the rules on re-shelling a car on a used shell.

It certainly looks this business, but had it been reshelled on a new shell the value IMO would be far greater than one on a used shell. Really needs a meticulous viewing and inspection to be sure if its really as good as he says.

Im confused? It clearly states that it was restored using a brand new shell?

I have reshelled a Cosworth before and had the car called in for inspection by Essex traffic division who passed it no problems. It was shelled into a brand new shell with no ID (flat floor) and I had the floor section cut from the damaged shell which I took with me.

If it had its ID transferred onto another used car then yes that would be a ringer, but this has or it sounds like its purely had a reshell into a new shell and actually had everything else restored at the same time?

No different from if it was accident damaged and reshelled by a main dealer either yesterday or ten years ago?

Or am I going mad?

Its all clean on HPI and the plate changes all tie up with no history attached to any, and that E reg plate it is on now was the original plate from when it was new.

There have been more questions added since I read it yesterday. Yes he does now state it was a 'brand' new shell. But im still a little concerned for you, only from his description of how the chassis number was stamped: 1) The question from the Police officer is true and valid, new shells are stamped on the strut not the floor, & witha totally new chassis number to prove a traceable history.
2) The check that Vosa do to ensure a brand new shell is used is NOT to check if there is a number already stamped underneath the new one, you have to provide original documentation (a reciept) to show purchase of a brand new shell from the manufacturer.
If none of the above is satisfactory it should be issued with a Q.

The guy seems to be taking offence at peoples scepticism, which I guess is a little understandable but having worked with the DVLA rules and processes for 4 years, it still just doesn't sound quite right to me. Ask him if he has a copy of the original reciept for the 'brand new shell' from Ford. If he has, then I personally would feel a lot more comfortable parting with a large amount of cash for a car like that.

Brand new shells from Ford have not been available for many many years so it would be impossible to provide a receipt for the purchase of one! However new shells do still crop up from time to time from other sources and I think this is what was used here.

That looks like a superb car and I don't think anyone is going to invest that amout of time and money to try and sell a ringer. I hope he gets his price and I would have no qualms about buying it after viewing/inspecting it.

Dont get me wrong, im not saying its a ringer, its just you have to be 100% sure in your own mind when someone has done a re-shell that it has been done 100% legitimately with all the correct paperwork in place.

Im sure quite a few people on here remember Keiths experience with his mint reshelled Series 1, that within weeks of costing him a fair wedge of cash was stuck on a Q plate by VOSA inspectors due to the previous owner not following the correct procedures.

I would hate to see anyone have the same unfortunate luck as him, and therefore can only advise what I know to be fact of the VOSA procedures.

its not a ringer in the stolen sense of the word but has had an identity removed from a scrap shell and placed on a new shell, this isnt legal, sorry,no matter what you think its not!!

so if you were to buy this and got a pull for something and the police decided to investigate it you have a very good chance of never getting it back!!

plus what plate did the dvla inspector lift up on the floor to check for another number under?answers on a postcard to wtf????????

Well it would appear that he has followed procedure and NOT welded the old plate to the floor or cut out a hole and welded said item in place, he has "placed" the stamped plate on the floor in the correct position......... sorry but nothing illegal there!

Believe it or not, Dibble can be very helpful in this situation and will stamp the new shell and provide the correct paperwork should any problems arise in future.
