OK, Tell me about 306 D Turbos!
People have been talking about them so I wanna know exactly why they are so higly rated? What can be done and how costly is it to get decent performance out of them?
And how fast can they be made? They only start out at 92bhp and take an age 0-60.
I reckon the beemer is going on ebay at the weekend. I'm pretty pissed off at how much it's costing me to run with fuel and insurance. I want more mileage even if it's only slightly more but considerably better insurance.
Discuss!

Not all I'm interested in, just need a car that's still relatively fun and entertaining. Maybe the 306 ain't the one, but that's why I've asked.

I've got one mate - i use it as my day to day runabout...
Mine's on 136k and apart from having to turn the ignition key to stage 2 three times to thoroughly heat the glow plugs before starting in a plume of smoke i've not had too many problems.
Personally i'd suggest some aftermarket discs and pads as i found the brakes a bit below my expectations...
Not astoundingly quick, but 2nd gear pulls quite nicely.
Apparently the "dervdoctor.co.uk" can tweak the boost and the fuelling to make it over the 100bhp mark.
If you can get a reasonable mileage one with a good history for a good price then i'd say go for it

Im using my brothers 306 estate as a runabout at minute, it looks shit but actually its quite torquey on set off, just runs out of puff at 4000rpm as they do but overall i'm impressed but i'm not tellling my mates as for years they been telling me how daft i am about wasting money on Cossys. I guess if you got a 306d you could lower it, put 17s on, tints etc and tweak it a bit and it would look summat like. Or get a big 607 sdi, cheap luxury barge.

I think they're great, ive had two as daily runarounds inbetween company cars, good on juice, near bullet proof engine and nice trim. Imagine an XSi with a diesel turbo engine and thats about it..
Handling is good, brakes are ok, service items are cheap and they average around 50mpg!

Speak to Baldy Butch about the one he had. That was absolutely mental.
Shit myself a couple of times in that, couldn't believe it was a diesel the way it went

I can fill my tank up and get from Nottingham to Bournemouth and back again on 1/4 of a tank (4hours each way).
So Diesel lasts extremely well

I've owned mine for 9 months now. All i had to do was replace the glow plugs and oil..
Mine comes with the sport trim so looks nice inside and out.
Mates car was the basic version so crappy seats, grey dash etc.

I've got a 306 turbo diesel as a day to day run around. Mines a 1998 S reg sport which had 60K on the clock with FSH n paid £2500. Had it about a year now and its now showing 78K. I've been really impressed with it overall. Managed to get 600 mile out of a full tank once but usually its around the 500 mark. Handles well, brakes are gd, looks nice and being the sport, it has the better trim. Build quality isn't the best but I have seen alot worse. The prob I have had so far is a electric window motor packing up, one of the pins holding the window broke so the window dropped, and the drivers door locking motor packed up. So nothing major really and for the abuse it get I think it is entitled 2have a few little things well recommended in my opinion

Great cars imo,
I had Stu up the boost and fueling on mine power upped to 110bhp which really did transformed it, a lot more responsive
On a recent trip south I saw 520odd miles from a full tank & with a little under 1/4 tank remaining.
Economic & fun litle cars!!

Butch, was it fun to drive, and was it at least mildly quick? To be honest I could live with a ropey 0-60 time so long as it was fun and had the power for overtaking and accelerating etc once moving.

Butch - can you come do the fuelling/boost on mine mate?
The top end fuelling isn't right - apparently some cunt turned it down as it was 10x the acceptable level on emissions or some shit
