Default Wheel alignment

When having your wheels aligned does this have any effect on the steering being central when the car is driven in a straight line.

Had 2 new front tyres fitted to the FRS today and they checked the alignment and found it was out 2 degrees on the near side so i agreed to have it realigned. Drive out the garage and the steering wheel isnt straight when the car is driving straight. I took it back to them to recheck it and they locked the steering wheel in dead straight and then rechecked the alignment and found it was incorrect by 1 degree so they corrected it and off i go again, except the steering wheel still isnt straight when driving the car in a straight line.

Now am i being too fussy, the steering wheel is about 4-5 degrees off centre towards the right Or have the garage done something wrong

cheers for info on it

I understand from previous posts on this matter that the FRS needs to be 4-wheel tracked. Although the fronts might be straight if the back end is steering to one side then you will need to correct it which means the wheel ends up on the cock.

Not sure how true this is, ive never had my FRS tracked up though.

if it is at an angle when u let go of the steering but isnt pulling then the front and rear toe settings need adjusting, before the car is tracked the steering wheel should be moved left and right to take pressure off power steering if u have it and then locked in a straight posistion while the front toe is adjusted.

Yep exactly that. It isnt pulling but the steering wheel isnt straight.

They did it with engine running and did wiggle the steering left and right few times 1st and they did lock the steering wheel in straight, but somethings not right

Paul, yeah might have to consider it

Don't do this

My local alignment place did this and then the car failed the MOT because the wheel fouled with the inner arch on one side

I had a new tyre put on my Focus's front left after hitting a pothole. the sidewall developed a big egg and ever since it's been pulling to the left hand side slightly. Got it done at Benfield on York Rd, they probably didnt bother checking the tracking as it's a lease car and they don't bother spending any time on them

I'll have to get it booked in and checked out
