i suppose i should have expected the rs500 to be the choice of most on here.just thought there may have been a few more towards the jap stuff.

thats my mind made up for now i think. my rs500

wonder what the answer would have been on a jap site though

Why do you care what other people would have????

The fact that you are even posting this says you are not 100% happy with your car!

You should definately try lots of other cars with an open mind

RS500's have alot of mystique about them and people who have never owned one wank over them and dream about it. Its the same with Escos as well. Fact is they are both shonky old Fords! and the dream is normally ALOT better than reality! BUT yours has a massively powerful engine which can make it alot of fun. However there is more to cars than going fast though... especially on todays roads!!!!

I am not just slagging off Fords. This is the same with many cars. Alot of people wank over the 911 Turbo from the badboys Film... I used to as well Then I drove one. What a slow, overrated, crude, and ancient feeling pile of 80's poo! A drove an early Diablo as well as was very let down! In fact I was gutted!

Other cars have really surprised me! I drove Seans £6k ish R32 GTR expecting it to be crap... and it was the Bollocks!!!!! Rentons wifes £5kish Scooby is sooo much fun!

i was just sat there last night wondering wether people still think the same about the old shonky fords as they used to with the appearance of all the jap stuff now.so i thought i would ask the question.

im not 100% happy about my car and doubt i ever will be about any car.but im also one for changing my cars very regularly as i just fancy a change(not always for the better!).every car has its good bits and bad bits.

out of everything i have driven i really love the way the 500 goes now that ive virtually finished modifying it.
i also drove a s reg 2 door subaru sti a few years ago and fell in love with the way it pulled through the gears.
had a few subarus through the garage and they always seem good fun to drive but just lacking a bit more power.

all my post was for was to gauge what people like/would have.
and also for lucky people to maybe say "yes i had an rs500,but then i bought a r33 gtr skyline/evo 6/m3 evo and its much better/not as good as my rs500/etc etc.

my mate bought an old (1983) 911 as he always wanted one-what a piece of shit it was and he hated it.i just wouldnt like to go and buy a r33 liner only to wish i hadnt in a few weeks.

and i know there is more to going fast than just having a 500 bhp cossie that goes like a bullet but would get murdered round the twisty stuff by a decent impreza/evo.i just havent found anything yet that i like more than my rs500-not saying there isnt anything out there-i just havent found it.unfortunately im too big to fit in the likes of the lotus/caterham stuff!

im not over 6'8 but im a big lad!

they dont really appeal to me that much anyway.

i really do like my cossie porkie-it was the car i never thought i would able to afford.ive had many, many sapph cos/3 doors and enjoyed most of them too.plus i dont think i could ever bring myself to exchange it for say an evo 5/6 or a r33 gtr.
dont really know if i could ever bring myself to sell the 500,unless cicumstances made me.im just curious about the big jap cars.but my heart lies with the cossies, like a lot of people (including you).

just wish i had a bigger bank balance so i could buy a few r33 gtr/evo 6 to sell on so i could have a play before selling them on,but unfortunately my funds dont allow that (especially having so much tied up in the rs500).
maybe one day.............

I do like my Cossie Jay, but to say my heart lies with Cossies is wrong to be honest mate. I far prefer my Skyline as a road car and its great fun on track as well. AND my Skyline is far from my fav car! My heart lies with cars that make me smile. I don't care what badge is on the front really.

Ok, this is MY read on it. I could be VERY wrong... but here we go anyway!
I think you have now got your dream car..... and its not the dream you thought it would be. You wanted one for sooo long and now you are struggling to see what all the fuss was really about as its no more special than your old Cossies. That means its time to move on I think mate. Sounds like you want to try other things and are resenting your 'dream' car a bit. Thats why you have put this post up. If everyone else says 'yes keep the 500' then you will feel happier for a bit... but I wonder if deep down you are happy with it....

Don't do things for other people. Have toys that YOU want and that make you happy at this moment! The guys at work are always telling me to sell or updating my old Boxster as they think its old and poo! (and you don't even want to know what they think about the Japcrap polished Turd chav machine that is the Skyline)BUT nothing makes me smile more than getting the roof down and hearing her roar. I have it how I want it and its perfect to ME.

Also mate, remember just because you had a dream car doesn't mean now you have it you have to love it now you have it!

I'm sure actually banging Pamela Anderson wouldn't be anywhere near as good as I have dreamt for example!

Sorry if I am totally wrong! just seems like you are looking for something extra from your car... and it just can't deliver EVEN now after you have her looking great and running VERY well!

porkie you are probably very right-i can be a little undecisive get something i want then realise i dont want it as much as i thought i did.but i think i would be like this with any car-if i won the lottery and bought say,a new ferrari,i would probably want to swap it for something else quite quickly-i just get bored.

if i had a skyline,i would want an evo,if i had an evo i would want a cossie,etc,etc.

plus youre probably right about pamela anderson too!

Keep the 500
What else has the road presence, exclusivity, 500bhp+, drop dead looks. It ticks all of the boxes apart from mega Jap 4wd handling. But i can't think of anything under £15k the has all boxes ticked. Be happy you are a very luck man.

The wrc escort of stian hafsengen.
The 779hp ford rs500
The best escos in the world.
And the best rs 500 in the world.
With maby some litte tweaks like larger 18 inch lightweight wheels for 380 mm ap racing brakes and longer gearing for higher topspeed.
And maby a nissan skyline r34 gtr nur spec as road/track car build to big spec i really like skylines the best of the bunch is the r34 gtr.
Or highly tuned trackspec evo 6 tme.
Don't really care about stock cars.
And my offroad/tarmac playtoy would the the peugot 306 cosworth of andrew burton the fastest and best sounding rally in the uk.

Steve
would you be able to get a moonstone rs500 for sub £15k-doubt it now-there arent many rs500's now that are worth less than 15k.
mine isnt worth 15k and mine has got 500 bhp on a live map and 17" rl7's

id personally go for something like 3dr wixsy's moonstone 3dr at 8.5k and rag it to death.probably simalar engine spec to your 500 and you would have change left over from the 500.
then you could always try importing a jap car yourself with the spare money

remember with an rs500 you will only drive around constantly thinking of how much the front splitter is worth

get a saff so if you crash it its not the end of the world

oh and i have always had a soft spot for the old audi quattro turbo's with the leather and digi dash

Why only an Evo 5/6? The Evo VIIIs can now be had for under 15k and the VIIs have been for a long time.

Some people like the 'harder' looks of the 5 & 6 but for later technology they don't come near to the VIII IMO.

Have a look at model comparisions HERE
